Anyone ever get this??

I sometimes have to leave my car standing for a few days as i have to go away with work. When i get back and start my truck its does something weird.

Normally: put key in, turn on ignition, all dask lights(ignition lights etc) on then turn key again all lights go out and engine starts.

If i leave it for about 3 or more days: put key in and turn on ignition, all dask lights on then turn again, lights off engine starts then they come back on for a few seconds then go out again.

Anyone know why? It only seems to happen when it hasnt been driven for a while.

Things may be different with a D2, but if this happened with a D1 I would suspect a relay sticking or may maybe the multi-function control unit which can be found pluged into the back of the interior fuse box.

On a D2 your problem my show up when hooked up to a 'testbook' pc.

yep, i got that... it's a TD5 thing.

it drove me crazy trying to find the answer,

The intrument binacle come to life, then once the engine fires, it all goes dead!

I thought it was just a bad connection on the multiplug enhanced by vibration, so took it all apart... no... not the multiplug...

I did hours of research on this... the binacle is controlled via a computer data connection to the BCU module in the glovebox... basically the binacle is the display to the electronics in the BCU.

wiring diagram after wiring diagram... hmm... still no closer to the answer,

my best guess is damp
my second guess is the fuel sender guage playing up and causing a bad earth which shorts out the entire binacle.

try the same scenario with differnet levels of fuel in the tank??? that's how I came to my second guess!!!

I'm still none the wiser, but luckilly it's now not happened in a while...

someone else on here had the same problem a couple of months back, an I think it's still a mystery!

Check for water ingress onto the BCM (body control module) this the passenger fuse box above the throttle pedal.

yeah its bloody annoying. Everytime it happens, my heart stops as i think i have a massive problem.

Is it something to worry about do you think?

Could it be like a system check as the car hasn't been run for a while??

I dont think it would be a system check.
I think it is mearly a bad earth, where and what causes it - that i dont know, It could well be water ingress to the BCU? (probably through the windscreen) as this was my suspision.
