swapped the gearbox as planned today, well almost!!!

got the old one out and new one under and lifted but the swine wont line up with the engine tidy. the bottom bolts line up enough to put in hand tight to hold it there but i cant get it to slip in all the way.

another thing concerning me is the gearbox mount on the passenger side seems to be up too high as if it was all twisted! but the bell housing is lined up with the engine.

any clues help or advice welcomed as always and thanks in advance guys

Have you tried putting it in gear and turning the output shafts on the transfer box, that'll turn the input shaft of the gearbox to help the splines line up with the clutch splines

i put a bottle jack on the panhard rod and jack font of engine up lowering the rear

well i can confirm its all in and running didnt get as many pic's as i wanted too but i think i got some handy ones will try put up a little guide in the next couple of days. i have to say a massive thanks to james martin got back out there with the bottle jack put it on the panhard jacked up lowered the hoist and 1 semi hard kick from the drum end slipped it right on there. that is one job im glad is over and i think without you guys throwing tips my way i would prob still be struggling with it now.

to answer the question did i use a tool to center the spigot in the flywheel i used a tool yes but not the one for it found a very good tool that fitted well and now due to the old gearbox being trash i've started to strip it for bits (linkages etc.) and will also be taking a grinder/cutter to the input shaft so i will have a perfect fitting clutch alignment tool for next time :)

only thing not working is the reverse switch (or maybe a wire broke) but that can stay as it is for now i'll bridge the connector to see if its the switch or the wires at some point and then rewire or add a temp switch until i feel brave enough to drop the box enough again to change the actual switch.

well thanks again guys as always you've got me through another job and again BIG THANKS to james martin for helping me not only in these posts but also in private messages to get me through this could never of done it without the help info i got on here from you lot

also found the easiest way to fill the transfer and gearbox :) so much easier from inside the car haha
