Any way to make 2.5na more powerful

25 is pretty good. Prob will find that it won't change that much on different types of journey (within reason!) - i do a total mix of driving, about 1500+ miles a month, and almost always consistently get exactly the same out of mine whether motorway, pootling about, stop start etc. Only difference really is if doing a lot off road, which is bit thirstier.
 
One thing that might make it noticeably "perkier" might be to set about adjusting the injection pump timing as described somewhere in the Defender forums pages.

I did this to Discomania's 2.5 Sherpa 15J NA engine in his Def 90, and it really goes quite well. The Sherpa engine is a 2.5 NA LandRover engine with the injection pump sitting a bit higher, and a different front cover.

With these engine, high revs kills the efficiency due to "pumping losses" between the cylinder and the pre-combustion chamber. Best economy will be working away at around 2,000 rpm all the time. In these engines don't worry about low revs and heaps of throttle.

My dad always seems to run at low revs changes at low revs basically never likes to hear the engine scream as such. Hes only had it for 3 month a month of that sitting at a farm witing for an engine change and for a B reg its in remarkably good condition. It needs a good service like but hes only covered about 200 mile now and 25 is the figure he sees
 
Would i be right in saying that like old tractors and things you can turn the fuel pump up a bit just before you see black smoke thats the best youll have it standard but then youre fuel would really suffer
 
There's a ton of things that you can do to try and help increase the performance of your N/A. When I first got mine it was running horribly but a good run up and down the motor way with some fresh oil, some redex in the system a little bit of veg oil, it soon started to run a lot better. It ticks over perfectly once its warmed up a little bit. I've also fitted a cheap induction kit and a hiclone and I've noticed a couple more miles to the gallon and a lot less smoke. Generally speaking you wont get these engines to fly up hills no matter what you do to them. They're just old powerful but slow engines!
 
a hiclone is a heap o bollocks.....how can it improve performance when it resticts airflow?? read a independant test sumwhere wot showed that it restricts airflow by up to 15%. bollocks waste o metal.

A lot less smoke and 1.8 more miles to the gallon (although thats probably down to chance). Not the slightest increase in performance though I'm afraid

Yeah, take it out and put a 200 in! They tried stickin a turbo on the 12 enjine making it a 19J and it dint cope very well so any noticeable upgrade is likely to affect the engine's reliability (not that adding a turbo to it was all that noticeable!)
