Apart from the obvious..........get someone else to do it, is there any good tips you guys would like to share on lifting out a 200tdi lump for repair and refit.
Cutting out the slam panel is a definate No No, as is taking off the wheels.

I brought a CFC100 engine crane from Machine mart today (£129 + vat) it will lift 1000kg / 750kg / 500kg or 250kg depending on how far you extend the boom.

I intend to strip off the fan, alternator, starter motor from the lump first.

I will remove rad etc before starting and am leaving the boxes in place.

I think I'll leave the exhaust manifold in place and split the exhaust at the downpipe section, to save buying a new gasket (It's only been on a week).

Anything else that'll make life easier............It's a Disco 1 300 / 200 tdi lump (instead of the original 300tdi.........not my doing)

Cheers lads.
Gary.

It's not a difficult job. Moving the crane once you have the engine suspended from it can be fun if the ground you're on is not nice and smooth.

What I have is a wooden skate (5' x 3') to lower the engine onto as soon as it is clear of the car and then i'll work on it on there, only using the crane for actually lifting it in and out.

not a 200 but you'll get the drift
