Hi does any one no a friendly copper,, need a little help, I have bought a freelander for the wife but cant get the tax till the v5 comes, and Ive lost the tel no of the prev owner, so I can ask if they have sent it to us yet,,,, or give us the no off the v5 so we can tax it on line, cheers guys

storm think hes got the v5 on its way but not received it yet to tax the motor. johnler, you could still try a call to the dvla and explain your situation

But but but..

''Ive lost the tel no of the prev owner, so I can't ask if they have sent it to us yet''

as i recall...theres a tear off bit..notification of new owner...surely they have asked for that when they bought it..or a receipt???

if you've not got the new keeper supplement, you can get a form from the post office (summat66 ISTR) to apply for a new V5 - I think this also lets you get tax from the PO too.

You'd have thought yeah, last owner of my Disco never sent log book back to DVLA:doh:, luckily a signed receipt and the new owner slip got us the log book ... some 2 months later.

did u not get the small green bit of the v5? even if you did it on line they will send the tax to the address on the v5 its not like the old days when you could just fill out a form and get tax. You need the v5 main bit or the small green part to get tax might be worth a ring the dvla via there 2 week long automated phone system

DVLA I have tried that, but no go,, they were the first owners, we will be the second,, but they couldn't find it ( I no we should have left it, but!!) they had just bought a new freelander, we paid what they had been offered for it from a dealer that they had just bought there new one from, they took us down to there local dealer that knew them by first name terms and confirmed they bought it new and had just bought a new one Hpi showed as only one owner

didnt get the small green bit as I would have got the main bit as well, they couldnt find it

I was hoping a copper could do a vehicle check on it to bring up address for were it was recorded as kept

I'm sure you can request those details yourself too somehow - read about a scam being pulled by bike theives paying their £2 to find out where the tasty bike they saw out and about lived... :(

I didnt loose the tel no, I put it in my iphone but after doing a restore at the weekend I lost all my tel no's

If the dealer know's them on 1st name terms can you not ask them to contact the previous owners on your behalf, that way the dealer does not break any Data Protection bollox and hopefully you'll get what you need.

So you have lost the tel no then...

If they haven't got the V5 you definately need to get the replacement V5 issued ASAP... From memory it took about 6 weeks for mine to arrive - with no new keeper slip it'll cost you too.

to my knowlege you dont need the log book to tax a vehicle. you can fill in the application for the v5 at the post office at the time of taxing it.

you need to show mot and insurance though.
