looking at a 80k mile 2003 TD6 next week, just wondered if theres any known problems to look out for? and any 'quick fixes' people do to cover up any faults to sell the car on?

Thanks in advance

They are weak.

They aren't a ZF unit like all other auto Range Rovers. I think LR must have been having another 'accountant moment'. Chipping an M57 engine is usually why they fail.

I'm saying nothin....;) (About the GM box in the TD6,but there is a 4.4 L322 in my yard with a dead ZF box.)

cheers people

WSLR, is the M57 engine in a 2003 TD6 L322? (new to RR's so excuse the questions) And is chipping/re-mapping pretty much the same thing?

yes chipping/remapping is the same you should not really chip/remap these cars they use their computers for every action and messing with the ECU's will only cause problems

Brought a 70,000 TD6 04 Last year, so far I have spent over £4000 to keep it going.

It had a battery drain,
So it had a new battery, then a new alternator.

Then the Fuel pumps played up both of them (in the tank and inline), this caused it not to start.

Then the brake callipers locked on intermittently, so it needed new pistons and pads and discs.

Recently the belt snapped because of a frozen tensioner, the snapped belt put a hole in the radiator hose.

It has a wheel bearing wearing and or drive shaft as you can hear it when you turn right. The noise speeds up as the car does.

The left hand mirror has stopped power folding and is loose, it still dips and can be electronically positioned, just not power fold

I sometimes get a HDC Inactive message flash up when starting the car. But it goes out once the car has started.

The AIR SUSP. INACTIVE warning has come up a couple of times, which is the air compressor on its way out (I have been told) as it takes ages to change the car between off-road and access heights

Most recently the car won't turn over - it has power, just won't turn over. (Already posted about)

If you are thinking of getting one - from my experience it won't be cheap to run or reliable. But when it does work its great to drive and when it doesn't - It looks great or the drive or in the mechanics workshop.

I definitely wouldn't buy another, but I don't want to sell this one either. How strange Range Rover ownership is!!

looking on the net at many forums it is recommended to change gearbox oil at around 60-80 thou, i will be doing mine tomorrow night and will let you know if i have any improvement

Hello mate.

Have you found out why the ZF failed? Has it failed or is it software/electrical etc.. Anyhoo, I'll offer £50 for the thing.
No,I was just asked to read the EAT ecu - no more thank you. £50 ? It does not have that much fuel in the tank.:D
