Hi, 2010 freelander 2 sounds like the exhaust is blowing between 1500-2500 rpm. Exhaust is ok but I have found a valve under the air box that is letting air out, cover the valve and all sounds ok. Also, in 6th gear when it hits 2000 rpm the revs start to fluctuate as if the clutch is slipping. Had new clutch fitted recently and it was doing it with the old clutch as well. Power seems down as well. Does anyone have any ideas what the valve is and what could be causing the other issues? No fault codes are showing. Any help is much appreciated, wife wants to get rid.....I don't! Thanks

Sounds like a Dual mass flywheel failing if you ask me....does it have one?

What milage has it done....sounds strange but my rav4 exibited what you describe...

Jedi,
It's done 59k, flywheel was checked when clutch was changed (I was told).

It's the covering of the valve hole you mention that I'm confused about?

Can you elaborate?

59k is around failing milage, depending how it's been driven of course....

Is the car still under any kind of warranty?

The valve is under the air box, it seems to be some sort of prv, it's letting air out and it makes the sound of the exhaust blowing, when you cover it all sounds ok. I'm trying to find out what this valve is, I think it may have something to do with the problem. Possibly egr valve playing up or sticking turbo vanes. Car still has a warranty but they don't know what the valve is...they didn't even know it was there!

Thanks Jedi, the air filter and box are as dry as a bone but at least I know what the valve is now. Just have to find out if it's normal for air to be blowing out of it. Thanks again.

You would think it should be sucking air in not blowing it out?

You will get induction noise on acceleration with a hole in ya air box, could this be your exhaust blowing noise? As it's just for drainage try blocking it off and see how it drives.

Can't possibly think what is going on in there? Maybe the turbo wastgate is dumping air back in there? Is that where it's routed back to?
