help!
Picture taken through the opening that the track rod bar passes through under the wheel arch on the drivers side.

The metal rod that appears from the bottom of the picture is pointing at what looks like a silver pipe with a
Crushed flat end. Any offers on what this might be or where it should be going?

Also above that there is what looks like an arm sticking out with what looks like a a round "thing" hanging
from it.....don't you love my technical terminology! Any ideas on what it is or does?

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks as always!!
Mark

Being an L Series man with a K Series parts car, all I can say is they looks like a silver pipe with a crushed flat end and an arm sticking out with what looks like a a round "thing" hanging from it!

grumpygel you are spot on with your arrows. They are the two bits I am trying to identify.
GG's helpful right hand arrow is one of the gear linkage ball joints. The left arrow, I'm struggling to identify. I don't think I have it on mine, but mine is an auto. So it could also be part of the gear linkage. Edit: I think the flattened pipe is an IRD cooler pipe. There's also no coolant hoses running to the IRD. There is a hose looped back up, where it shouldn't be.
I have noticed you don't actually have a propshaft connected to the IRD flange either.

Ah yes - I presumed the IRD cooler pipes were hidden behind what you marked as the "turbo boost control servo" - but of course they're not because it looks like they have been bodged! There should be 2 "silver" pipes coming from the cooler on the side of the IRD that wrap over the top of it - it l;ooks like they've been hacked about with and the hoses rerouted (I thought that was a TD4 pipe not a IRD hose!).

I don't know why someone would bodge the IRD cooler like that. Maybe the car was running too cool (common for TD4s) and they wanted to try and get some more heat out of the heater. Maybe the cooler was leaking.

I don't think the cooler is actually that important for cooling the IRD - I think its main purpose is to bring the IRD up to the same temp as the engine (so its a heater rather than cooler) - but I may be wrong.

Luckily I have another working hippo in good condition. I bought this td4 as a potential project but there
Is too much needing doing so I am going to strip for spares and sell the rest.
If anybody needs anything....
