Can anyone tell us what the freelander 2 is like. Is it any good. Does it have any faults that have shown up yet?

Squeeling steering noise.

Rear differential noise.

They are all thats common to be honest.

Both noticable on roadtest.

Can find threads on both these issues on this forum tbh.

Good cars though imho.

Noisy P/s issue, normally cured by a new reservoir @ £20 or so.

Rear diffs can get a bit noisy, and fairly expensive to replace. Not particularly common though.

Wheel bearings are a bit of a weak point. Changed a fair few of them.

Rear pads and handbrake mechanism tend to seize through lack of use. Both cheap and easy fixes though.

Other than that, not much else goes wrong with them other than routine servicing

Fantastic to drive. Especially the newer version with the sd4 engine. Make sure you know if your buying the 2wd or 4wd version. I'm looking to get one when the sad days comes that my Freelander 1 int on the road no more.

Watch out for clutch problems around 60-80k Look through the history to see if it has been done (like my wifes - £1300 at a specialist) or ensure you get a warranty that covers it!
The slave cylinder sits inside the gearbox and it all has to come out when it fails, which it is prone to do. Haldex can get noisy as well although I had an 08 reg in a previous life and it was difficult to tell if it was bearings or haldex. Ended up having both done, fortunately under warranty, but dealers will always fight you before admiting there is anything wrong....."Probably just tyre noise sir. Come back when you have replaced them if you still have a problem"

Cheers for that. Seem reliable and coming down in price. Gona run me old s reg petrol into the ground. Still going quite well after head gasket change and body condition is brill. Diesel next though.
