I was driving the byway near Santa Pod a few weeks ago and met a couple of 'ladies' walking their dogs. One was very obviously anti 4x4's (which she called fourtracks). She was trying to catch me out with her questioning (she failed). The byway is rutted but certainly driveable (and fun) and the lady was saying how bad it was that 'fourtracks' were causing so much damage. It turned out that she worked for the rights of way department, but was very misinformed about the subject and very anti 4x4's. She actually wants to see the byway tarmacked!! With people like this working for the council, boy we need to be careful! Her argument is that byways should be accessible to all. If overuse is a problem on byways then it stands to reason that if we change all footpaths and bridleways to byways then the use will be spread more evenly!
