So here's one of those questions that I probably ought to know the answer to already. But I don't. Do you use copper grease or similar with nyloc nuts? I want fastenings protected but does it reduce the grip of the nyloc?

Won’t make any difference as you shouldn’t use nylocks more than once anyway. Use grease it’ll stop them seizing. Don’t use it just cut them off and bang on new ones.

I can’t afford new nuts and grease. 😞

nope! use anti fret paste, on bolt after nyloc is fitted.
PS never use copper slip its abrasive...... its not really had an appicaiton since the early 70's!...

On moving parts, correct. On non-moving parts like nuts and bolts, absolutely no problem.

Providing it's not on particularly load bearing fasteners such as wheel nuts. I'm sure no one here wants to open that one...

I'll tell you how mean I am. I think it's the 5/16 nylocs from Paddocks used to cost 5p each and I would get really mardy if wasted one. It would ruin my day! ;)

nah never annealed that lol hate the stuff, its a dirt magnet. prefer anti fret paste, lasts longer

Dont mind a bit of loctite 5990 though.... works wonders on exhaust joints

I had to buy 8 of them from my local indy as I had misplaced the nuts removing the rear prop on my 110 2 weeks ago...£8.58p!!!!
Pack of 10 from island 4x4 £2 something so I ordered 2 packs to a p38 order from them.

Tbh I'd be interested to find out how, in the general scale of things just how abrasive copper slip is, sounds like it would it be ideal for using when honing a cylinder,
