Is it possible to change these without having to remove the front undertray which looks like a real pain to do ?

Yes, providing the bolts come out OK. You can unbolt the 2 small rear bolts and spring the rear part of the under tray down, if more room is needed for those pesky ARB bolts.
The factory ARB bolts are made of cheese, so round off readily. Make sure you use a single hex socket (6 flats) and be prepared to hammer a smaller size socket on, if the bolt heads are very rusty.

What? It is a pain to remove the under tray granted, but its just bolts (and maybe a couple of screws on the valence).

Owners of Freelanders become proficient at removing and reinstalling the undertray for servicing etc.

7 minutes off and 10 minutes on, so not a big deal really. Interestingly the pre 2000 models have 2 extra large bolts, so do take a couple of minutes more than the post 2000 models.
However the facelift has 2 more small bolts than the post 2000 models, so it's swings and roundabouts really. As long as the bolts all undo correctly, then it's not really much of an issue to remove the under tray.

Yeh, the biggest problem by far is lining up the A Bar lower brackets and tray front outer holes with the holes in the chassis (even though it doesn't have a chassis evidently) on my '99. Lining 2 up is easy, lining all three up a near impossibility on mine. I don't bother now, so the A Bar is just secured by the bolts on the bumper brackets.

My life has been a lot less stressful over the last few years since I gave up trying to fix in those lower A Bar brackets.

If yer take the under tray oft to do it yer can also have a look about for oil leaks and any other problems. All part of preventative maintenance.
