You can tell I'm having a quiet day the garage needs a clearout and I'm
avoiding it - this is a very long massive download of the permed one taking
a new Disco 3 up a mountain ( helped by some experienced offroaders luckily
or he would still be there or maybe the car would ) I missed this in August
..
Be Warned its a long video at 17 minutes and takes an age to download so
unless you have broadband and something else to do while it loads I really
wouldn't bother unless of course your garage needs a tidy?

Cool! Thanks Derek, I missed some of that on TV and now I can say I've seen
it all.
I don't suppose any normal 4x4 would have got through those boggy bits
though.
Must remember to take the boat anchor with me next time I go off-road.
(Might help if I got a winch fitted too.)

I think that his choice of route was more aimed at providing
photographic opportunities than getting from A to B unassisted. Even the
most dumb wouldn't have tried some of what he attempted and there did
appear to be other ways around the wettest bits.

just don't look at the numptys holding the winch cable whilst
winching in, lack of winch sail, and how close they are all stood to
the cable.......

I still say that's impressive. With Clarkson at the wheel, self-ackowldeged
worlds-worst off-road driver, it still only got stuck twice (that they
admitted to)...

only thing that gives me pause about it all is that it's not gonna work if
the electronics fail. Actually, what will rpobably fail is wiring or
sensors, not the actual electronics, but still.

As far as I am aware this is the trip where he was lifted off the top of the
hill by helecopter, when filming had finished. The crew then discovered that
Clarkson had the keys to the disco in his pocket Thus leaving the crew and
support team up the mountain.

that's the trouble with the modern lawless society... you get into the habit
of taking the keys out of the motor even if you stop for a slash...

'course, those of us who drive kids around are already well-versed in not
leaving the keys in it...

Anyone see that new cop-series last night about the bloke who gets
transported back to 1973? The sets-and-props people must've had fun. Loads
of shiny 1970s vehicles everywhere.

A particularly nice touch was the bit where the bloke's arrived back in the
past, and his J**p has transformed into a rover P6 (considerable improvment)
and it's still playing "Life on Mars", which he was listeneing to before,
except it's now on an 8-track cartridge.

Looks like it might be good.

Thoroughly enjoyed it mind you wait till the 8 track spews tape all over the
dashboard. It could drive my girlfriend nuts ( her being 'mercan and a few
years younger ) with me telling her what the cars were how many I owned
(including the mk3 Cortina 'sludbus' and that tasty Vitesse ) I even
checked the 1973 charts no change tho' Steve Wright is still playing them in
the afternoons
