Had my td4 for a week or two - noticed that it holds back quite a bit in full lock. I know it's meant to be normal to a degree but no idea what that degree is. Anyway - I did the test. Jacked back wheel up, socket on hub nut with 1 meter bar with 5kg weight, took about 1 min 30 sec to turn 45 degrees. After reading the various VCU threads on here its not clear if that is ok or not - seems a bit slow.

This morning the Mrs took it to work and said that there was grinding noise when she went over a speed bump. Also I noticed a slight tyre scrub when going round a tight corner (travelling at a fair speed). All points to VCU I think. Bit concerns about the grinding noise and whether damage to the IRD had now occurred? She said it hasn't made any noises since.

When I was doing the test I noticed the rear diff seemed to move a fair bit - diff centre mount need replacing perhaps? How difficult a job is that?

Also I noticed what looked like a slight oil leak from the IRD- but not sure if that was possibly related to having a new clutch/fly wheel fitted - would there be any slight spillage or leakage as a result of such work?

I'm taking the prop shaft off tonight pronto. Just need to buy some torx sockets!

Can't help with the main problem, but I found normal sockets fit the torx bolts so don't go
Buying them specially
Good luck
