Hey guys

Cant get my V8 to start without human intervention!!!
If i take the air filters off the carbs and pour fuel down into the block it fires and then it will run fine but if i stop it and leave it for 10 mintues it wont start again!!
Do i have a pressure problem?

Cheers
Ally

Just checking one of the more obvious things ;)

The fuel pump, do you know that it is working properly? and what kind of output pressure is it giving against the float chamber valves?

When it does run, is it running 'normally', no spittting back through the carb etc?

Facet fuel pump Kitcar Kitcar Land Rover Classic car V8 on eBay (end time 10-Aug-09 09:36:14 BST)

Its that exact fuel pump thats on it, not entirely sure what pressure it is putting out. When its running it seems to be fine. Im getting quite a few backfires and it doesnt sound massively smooth but i think that is largely down to the distributer clamp being a bit loose so it shakes itself out of alighnment and i dont know how to tune it properly!!
I'm also not entirely sure if all the breather pipes are attached to where they need to be.
I'm pretty new to this carburettor business so there is alot of trial and error involved!

Sounds like u need to get the engine timing sorted out first and possibly the rest of the ignition only then do you start on the carbs by checking the jets are clear, idle and main also the float level and the auto choke, tuning twin carbs is very easy and all explained in the Haynes type of manuals I think they do a manual just for a V8. If it's a RRC or disco engine then get a manual for that vehicle.
The oil in the carb is only for damping so use engine oil (not 3 in one). The output from you pump is up to 7psi (which is normal for a carburettored engine) look in the spec for your pump in your ebay link.
