Hi my d2 has the stock 235/70/16s on which are good and would like to keep them for playing and have something a bit more road friendly for daily, Ive been offered a set of p38 alloys with good tyres (more road baised) they are fitted with 255/55/19s according to the tyre size cal these will throw the speedo out by 3.4% and only 1inch bigger diameter, I take it these will fit ok without grinding the crap out of my d2 on full lock

Personally I'd stick to the 235's, at least for the road. My old disco had these, while the newer one has the 255/55/R18 wheels - and I find the steering a bit heaver and and the ride a tad harsher. However, the old car had springs all round and ACE, whereas the new one has air springs and is non-ACE (sadly), but I'm not sure how much those differences would affect the steering feel.

In an ideal world you'd borrow a set of the wider wheels and slap them on your car, so you'd have a back to back comparison on the same vehicle.

I tend to agree with @Spong. I'm fortunate that I do have two sets of wheels, the stock 18" rims as fitted to the 2004 D2 with summer tyres and a set of 16" rims with Winter tyres on.
The 18" are 255/55 R18 and the 16" are 235/70 R16, and the 18" are definitely a harsher ride that the 16".
One of the problems with the Disco 2 wheels is the stud pattern, so the choice is somewhat limited.

ACE wont affect the actual steering box feel, ie the wheel going back and forth. The wheel might, but I'd be amazed if average Joe could tell a 235 from a 255 like that. A 33.12.50 extreme MT vs a road 205/80, then yes.

ACE will however massively affect turn in and body roll. And will make the vehicle feel like it drives completely differently.

I wasnt so much bothered about heavy steering more will that tyre size on my stock D2 rip my wheel arches out on full lock, with them been wider and taller than I currently have

Well I bought them hoping the D2 will be a bit quieter on the road its current tyres are nearly new goodyear wrangler AT things and at 65 75 theres noise rumbling sort at first I thought it was UJs etc...but the noise changes with road surface sitting at the same speed so has to be the tyres. even if you dip the clutch so there is no load on the drivetrain the noise stays the same.

the new wheels have a more road baised tread so hopefully this will make things a bit nicer.

Think I scored quite well bought 5 L322 vogue wheels no curbing no damage will 5 matching tyres good tread, spigot rings and wheel nuts, cost less than 4 tyres would
