Well after spending a few of the coldest days of the year getting my front wheel bearings, hub and Stub Axle changed, after they collapsed on the M11 last week and I drove home, I decided if I had not got Hyperthermia and the temprature was showing a barmy 0 degree's I would get my worn UJ sorted.
I have had a strange vibration at around 30mph which I though would be the wheel bearing, and as it was still there I had another look at the front UJ's and was supprised I never noticed the play before.
Well after another 3 hours under the car it now drives as smoothly as I would expect a 300 TDI ES Auto to drive.
Not perfect as its 15 years old and has 225000 miles on the clock, but much much better than it has been since I brought it.
So far I have done the following.
New Engine Oil and filter
New Fuel Filter and emptied the catch bottle of lots of murky water.
New rear Brake pads
New rear shocks (Another job done in this recent cold spell)
New front Bearings, Hub and Stub Axle
New Battery
New Alternator
New Glow Plugs
New Brake fluid
New Steering wheel (Old leather one was showing its age and more like suede)
CB Fitted
Engine jetwashed and degreased.
New serpantine belt.
Now I only have the following to do:
New Cambelt ( Priority, but not a daily runner so will minimise use till this is done)
Get injectors sonically cleaned
Change the diff oils
fix oil leak
As this one has no rust issues and seems not to leak to bad I think I will have a goodun once the belt and injectors have been done.
