Hi all,

almost convinced it's my battery. It looks like the original one!

I only use my landy at the weekends, but often when starting, i'll just get the ticking. If I take it for a long drive, it will start fine again afterwards, but after a short one, it won't. If I don't move it, it might only start once or twice.

Does this sound like a duff battery to you? It was only recently serviced, and the porblem wasn't that bad then. Since then however, I've had to jump it several times which the battery probably didn't like and it has got worse.

When connected to the jump box I have, the car starts straight away, so I'm sure it's nothing else.

But just in case - have I missed anything, before I go and buy a new one?

Also - is there a particular type of battery which is favoured amongst disco owners? I was thinking of popping down to Halfords tomorrow morning to get one.

cheers.

why dont yu take it to halfrauds or sum where similar and get them to test it? Ok - so they will want yu to buy the new one from them - but yu dont have to?

Sounds like your battery is shagged for sure. Halfords is posibly the most expensive place on earth to buy stuff. Get yourself down to your local independent parts place and you'll save loads of dosh.:D

Probably should have read this and remembered that before I went out this morning! £87 - I found a couple of places on line, one was £70 and the other £80. I'm sure I could get it cheaper. You live and sometimes learn.

Still, at least I've got it now. Will get a chance to fit it tomorrow afternoon. And then I won't have to worry about it anymore - and take a jump starter everywhere I go :D

Cheers guys.

I learned a neat little trick on other cars with computers and such, when changing a battery. Keep the car powered through a second battery (the one you jumped with perhaps? ) while you exchange the main one. This keeps constant power to the system and doesnt drop out any sensors or radio security codes etc. Just be careful where you put the powered battery cables while swapping the main one otherwise you get lots of sparks and damage to sensitive electronics.
