I found this site which i haven't seen before and first impressions are good.

Extreme4x4 is their name and while browsing i found this...

Extreme 4x4 Ltd DEFENDER 90 CHALLENGE EXHAUST SYSTEMS

A side exit system you can buy! Does anyone know if these people are any good to deal with? And if anyone has purchased this side exit pipe, whether it is a quality product?

i hope this hasn't been mentioned before

i made mine on me 90 when i had it cost me about £10 in parts the most exspensive bit was the d44 finisher

extreme 4x4 used to be scorpion racing, not sure if e4x4 bought em out or what,as you may know sr were crap towards the end but ive heard a few poeple mention since e4x4 have come on to the scene products and customer service are really good.i agree with wiltshire landy man though i made a side exit what looks just as good for £23 and an hours work

I've been thinking about making a side exit exhaust by removing the back box, use some flexi exhaust pipe, a boy racer chrome slip on end and a finisher for the outside. Will post some pics if I ever get round to it.:D

Pretty much what I did - although I removed both boxes and then fitted a stubby little silencer. Mine exits in front of the rear wheel, not behind.

I'm all for doing jobs like this myself but in this case i'd rather a professional-looking exhaust rather than a quick bodge job.

But i must say, 19MART82, your exhaust pipe looks very nicely done! How did you make yours exactly? did you use the original exhaust pipe to make it?

thanks smithy,i bought preformed bends of ebay1x90 deg and 2x45deg(2 1/2"od pipe with 1.5mm wall),i used the flange of the old back box just left about an inch of existing pipe to weld to,with a polish from the grinder the new pipe fit straight over old,i had to adjust the bends slightly in places by cutting most of the way through with sthill saw then squeezing cut together and welding(you can see where i done this on pic from underneath)
the finisher i made from an old piece of checker plate, used one of them large hole cutter drillbit thingys, cut a large disc then a smaller disc in middle of that to make a ring

forgot to mention i allready had a stright through middle pipe on but it wouldnt take much to cut the silencer out and weld a piece of straight pipe in its place to make your full system straight through

Yeah mate it looks nice, I like alot. I am not a jelious person and will soon tell some1 if there landy looks nice or a heap of ****e lol. I really like what you have done thou. I am doing mine orange and black so it stands out.

I have already got a straight through centre section so i was just wondering, if i was to replace the back bock with a straight through pipe, will it become too loud inside the truck? i was hoping by just fitting a straight through centre section it would create a nice, grunty and a slightly louder noise but to be honest, there isnt much of a difference at all from what i have noticed

On a turbo diesel, most of the engine noise is suppressed by the turbo itself. When I fitted my 200tdi I started the engine up with just the downpipe connected - it really wasn't too bad. I've heard louder motorbikes and boy-racer cars for sure.
I've removed both boxes, but have put a very small stubby silencer in just as the exhaust exits through the side - it's louder than standard, but really not excessively so.
