Looking good. It's great once the bodywork starts going back on.

What is it that the neighbours don't like about painting? Is it the smell? The sight of you doing it? If they're looking for stuff to get annoyed about, I'd have thought the sound of power tools would be more annoying - all that wire brushing with the drill and angle grinder. Strange people.

great project !

What kind of base primer you advice ?
See that you using epoxy primer , but they also
recommend to etch primer as base coat .

What do u use when ?

:eek: last one.?! :eek::eek:

Well I say that but I'll probably not be able to help myself
I know I'll get bored and want to build something different again but we'll see.
Although I do wonder why I bother to be honest, causes me nothing but grief.
I'm starting to feel uncomfortable in my own home because of said neighbours, hence why on this build I'm trying to hide everything :(
Just makes my life 10X harder, for what? For them bunch of c*nts trying to stop me doing what I enjoy.

Crack on then... Taking forever this build...

Hehe

Tell me about it  longer than it should do anyway!

Yep, it's great when they start going on and makes it feel like it's going somewhere :)
They don't like the smell or the noise, we've had letters from the council for both. Plus the business one.
I try and keep all noise to a minimum but obviously it isn't silent, which is what she wants.
But the truth is I'm not doing anything wrong noise wise, as it isn't first thing in a morning or late at night, I think the hours I do go out are very reasonable.
She has told me I should pay a garage and not be doing this sort of stuff at home, and it isn't normal!
Strange people indeed!

Epoxy is a substitute for etch primmer so no need for both.
I'm only using it because I have some left over from another job, otherwise I'd be buying etch and using that as it's cheaper than epoxy.
But if I don't use it up it'll go with the other 20tins of paint that aren't going to ever get used.
So epoxy over the bare metal bits, then high build over the lot.

Yes, the reason I don't wire brush and paint all my stuff is that I live in a built up area and do all my work out in the road. I'm near a corner, so I tend to work in the (quieter) side street which I can still reach with my hosepipe and extension lead. But I'm aware of how easily I could be stirring up conflict by doing this. I've done a few biggish jobs (brake rebuild, suspension rebuild, last weekend's axle rebuild) which have involved leaving the car on axle stands over a weekend, and I've got away with it so far. There is a lot of other noise in the neighbourhood, such as houses being refurbished by crews of builders complete with skips and piles of sand in the street, people doing DIY, trimming trees with chainsaws and the like, as well as a lot of drunken shouting from a pub on the opposite corner. But the likelihood is that they'll pick on me because I'm obvious and might be thought to represent a softer target.

Unfortunately very true :(
People! All they do if make life hard for you.
I don't want to upset people, but theirs just no reasoning with the people around me.
Although I can come across as a bit of a c*nt to be fair, not on purpose, just the way stuff comes out usually

So yesterday I finished prepping the wings, and painted a door.
Yes I say door as I touched the other one before the primer was dry  so I need to redo that one.

Got sides out of the shed, struggling to find space to keep stuff :(
Didn't really want to leave them out side as with 3 dogs they're bound to get trampled on and that isn't going to leave me very happy.

And one door done.
I seem to have spent ages on prep (before the build started too) and they still look crap, don't get me wrong they look a darn sight better than they did but not perfect.
If it was mine I'd have fitted another set of door skins, as they're pretty ****'e. same goes for the wings.
But it'd add the best part of £300 to the build if not more.

 pressed enter before I was ready.
Not really done anything today as I went to see out resident lr guru James martin, jolly nice chap he is too :)
The list of parts need gets longer, seem to have needed to order loads more stuff than usual.
So another order will be placed later. but the main things are a set of door hinges.
Plus a set of door handles, as as per usual the screws wouldn't come out
But hinges are the biggy so I can get them painted and hang the doors.
Probably wont get them until after Christmas now though, bugger.
And when listening to the radio, Christmas songs can **** off!

Did James martin fill your head with knowledge?...

Nah, only had a little chat, can't say I was looking forward to it beforehand as I'm **** with new people, or any people really, but genuinely a very nice guy.

I'm sure JM is just a walking LR Manual. :) The amount of times he's had to help me with stupid and complicated technical issues is ridiculous.

Yep +1, I've no idea how he remembers it all.

Didnt he invent land rover?...

Aaron I know I've posted a thread about this, but I'm struggling for replies and I need this sorted asap so I am able to get some heating for the little ones. I know you have TD5, is there anyway you could briefly check your heater matrix and seen how the operating cable connects to lever on the side. There doesn't appear to be a grubber screw setup on this replacement matrix. :)

Aye, I'll have a look in the morning mate :)
Give me a nudge if I don't come back with an answer though.

Well when things start to go wrong it never stops!
****'e couple of days.
So yesterday I decided to paint the wings, primer was done so just colour.
First coat on, exactly the same as usual, sagged like a bastard
I think that was down to the panel wipe not being dry as I ended up with loads on the rag.
So waited until this morning for them to dry fully, flatted back down and tried again.
And.... yep, that's right did exactly the same in exactly the same place, what the f*ck! :mad2:
And I have no idea of the cause this time, applied even lighter coats, piece of crap! Never had any problems like this before, working in a f*cking ****y little hovel doesn't help matters though.
So I got the bonnet prepped and stuck the wings out side as I'll have to flat them again.
Got bonnet in primer, let that dry.
Got 2 coats of colour on, went out to do the 3rd coat, picked the gun up and threw the paint that was in it everywhere.
I don't remember unscrewing the lid but I must have done
So the 400ml of paint that was in the gun covered both me and the bonnet in paint.
All in my ear, hair, clothes, face etc.. covered in the stuff :mad2:
And I'll have to redo the bonnet too.
So I'm not best pleased :(
But if I don't laugh I'll cry, had enough! f*cking painting :mad2:

Yeah, I tripped over my line the other day too, and pushed the line into something I'd just painted, luckily only primer so didn't matter.
That's the thing, I do worry, or maybe worry is the wrong word.
But beat myself up over nothing, just makes you more angry and gets you know where though
