Another rebuild, Td5 90

Why the Allen key style bolts? Donyou normally use them throughout your rebuilds? I have always found that they get full of crap and become a bugger to get off.

Only problem is now is, I haven't got an allen key big enough to tighten them up properly

Use a hex head bolt with two nuts locked together on the thread - the head of the bolt becomes the Allen key and the nuts mean you can turn it with a spanner.

Great work by the way. Seeing your progress regularly spurs me on to crack on with mine :)

Do you ever stop??! Lol

Yep, I've done naff all, all week  Bloody cold weather.

Not usually as much as I have on this and I agree they can get full of crap, but hopefully they wont have to come out very often.
I usually only use them on stuff you can see more, I.E rear tub to crossmember bolts, rear door hinges etc.

His trucks go nowhere after a rebuild so they stay fresh forever hehe

Haha, not far from the truth  well for mine anyway. My own fault I always invest far to much time, money, blood, sweat and tears into them :(
This should just get used as it did before though as it's not mine.
Which is why I'm making a big effort to do as much as I can now, meaning it wont want anything for a long while.

Ah, missed this, must have been replying while you was.

Thanks :) glad it helps others too :) I sometimes need a kick up the arse too

Oh and that's a bloody good idea, but I'd already ordered a 14mm allen key off ebay, just another excuse for more tools really

Well this afternoon I finally bit the bullet and decided to give the paint a go in the cold.
Well I say the paint, I have got the bulkhead in primmer.
Which if that turns to sh*t then the top coat is going to too so wont bother.
I'm not overly confident if I'm honest, but will be nice if I can at least get the bulkhead and tub painted.
Time will tell and hopefully I'll be getting the top coat on tomorrow
Other thing with it is the time it takes to dry is way longer.
When I was doing mine in summer it was dry(ish) in 5 minutes or so.
Now it's staying wetter, longer, so more chance to end up with ****'e in the paint :(

I was like that with the primer and the paint wishing it would dry before some dust or insect would ruin it.

Haha, exactly, I was like that with mine in the summer where it was dry(ish) in minutes or under, never mind now where it'll take 4 times as long

You need to get a couple of space heaters, that should do the trick.? :)

Aye, but I'm doing this in the pokey little shed at the bottom of the garden so the neighbours can't smell it or hear the compressor, well hopefully
The point being I haven't got room for a heater :( Oh and it's a wooden shed so not sure it's a good combination  or not when I'm about
And one more thing that means spending money  :brick:
Brother wont want to pay for them either, he'll just say "it'll be reyt, at least it's all one colour"
If the primmer has come out ****'e tomorrow I'll just leave the rest and do it in summer :)

Well the good news is the primer turned out ok :)
So at least I know the paint stands a fighting chance but we'll see tomorrow.

So went to Asda to get as many mixing jugs a possible (emptied the shelf) :D
Woman serving must have thought I was mad
But at 35p each I just treat them as disposable.

My god it's empty!!!!! well almost :p

The primer doesn't look to have taken to badly to bulkhead. Now we definitely sorted on colour.?! :p

Tell me about it :( I did tell you I had a massive clear out.
Although in fairness I've just moved some of it to the other shed so I can paint a few bits in here.

Primmer is bob on, no problems their.
Colour was chosen a while back after much debating  came in about 40 minutes ago from last coat of paint.
Think I may have laid the last coat on too heavy and got a slight sag :(
First time for everything I suppose, bloody cold weather
Will flat it out if need be, or hopefully it isn't in a noticeable place.

You mean you didn't changer your mind at the last minute.?! :p even if you have to flatten it back somewhat, you'll have a good base coat. Yeah it's not the best temperatures to be painting in, although I'm sure you'll be ok as long there's little damp or condensation in there. :)

Nope :) Not mine so not really a hard choice, just asked brother what he wanted, all I can do is advise.
And no it really isn't ideal, but I'm inpatient and want to get it done or I'm at a standstill.
Cold metal is a pig to paint, and I've found that even when I'm just brush painting stuff.
Hopefully it'll come out ok, I'm not a professional painter and don't know the ins and outs of painting in cold weather or what it causes so all I can do is see how it goes.
The only thing I know is it takes longer to dry.
It looked good to be fair, but will know more tomorrow.
I'll re-do it in summer if need be, or the bits I have done.

Sorry meant to say did you use extra hardener to make it cure faster

Ah, erm... in the primer yes slightly more, in the paint today no.
Have you done this before then? and how much more should I add, not used to this painting in the cold lark.

There's nothing wrong with your painting mate, it's spot on. You should be really pleased with the what you've done so far - it's an awesome job! :)

No I'm no expert ,I'm like you paint my own stuff and learn something new all the time noticed if I've used more hardener use time is shorter so goes off faster
As said your painting looks great to me
