Sounds like the front drivers side cv joint is gone, Knocking ang clunking when on a lock. Also there is a slight jerking when i come to a stop.

Are the easy to change or repair, done them on normal cars but never on a range rover let alone a p38.

you can get a complete axle for approx 50 quid of ebay and you can take the shafts and diff out and swap on both axles in about 2 hours done my old mans one about a year ago as crown wheel had teeth snap off done it in a barn no 4 post ramp just every day jacks, stands, and trusty loss of blood to the odd knuckle or 2 or you can swap whole axle in thhe same sort of time

Ideal hopefully will get it on me mates ramp tomorrow and have a proper look inside the diff and check the half shafts.

Need to find a local one on ebay really as its a lumpy bit of kit to post.

Do the axles and diffs differ from the classic?

believe the axle differs
as the drivetrain is on opposite sides to a disco, havent been under a classic

but the father in law swap bits between his disco 1 and a classic

there are even diiferences at the hub ends in how the bearings / half shafts seal on the disco/classic axles
