Thanks guys, managed to detention with a breaker bar; it moved really easily. Looking at the bracket in the daylight, it looks fine. What I thought was a hairline crack was actually a forge seem.

Annoyingly, the waterpump looks pretty brand new and if the metal variety (Old on left of pic)!

I'm changing the thermostat whilst I'm here. RAVE wants me to take a number of pipes off etc but I think I can get to the bolts without having to do that.

However, I have noticed that the tube going from the turbo intake to the rocker cover looks completely shot and loads of oil seems to be coming from it! Does anybody actually know what the part is called so I can order a new one. I'm guessing it is some sort of breather but the plastic (breather?)and hose look like they both need replacing!

Looking at the old pump that has not been in there very long, worth hanging onto as spare .

Yeah, quite worrying really as I was convinced the overheating issue was waterpump related.

It is fine when tootling around town. However, when you push it hard or go on a motorway run, after you stop it starts to overheat. If you the Rev it to 3000rpm, it brings it back down but then goes back up if you don't start moving (and goes back up every time you stop afterwards).

I thought it was that the waterpump wasn't strong enough and you had to rev it to get it pumping harder when the engine got hot.

I'm a bit lost now but will just have to see what it is like when together again.

Treated her to new oil and air filter etc.

That breather pipe is £150, if you can find a dealer with one in stock!

Sounds like an airlock or a blockage to me.

Is the rad getting hot all over ?

Is the heater chucking out heat ?

Well, I'm stumped!

Changed the radiator, viscous fan, waterpump and thermostat and it is still behaving exactly as it was.

I can't tell if the rad is getting hot all over, there is not much room to get your hands in to check but it is a new rad. Heaters are getting warm

When driving around it seems fine no overheating. When you push it a bit though then stop, or coast around slowly with little revs, it overheats. However, if you Rev the engine above 2500 - 3000rpm, it comes down instantly (but then goes up again unless you start moving/Rev it).

I thought airlock or something but I've obviously bled the system now and it is behaving exactly the same way.

What is the best way to check for blockages?

Is the rad getting hot all the way across the top, standing at front it should get hot to the right and be cold to the left.

Marble when its off..
I have a strange one on mine, I think its for a Manuel, it has a nut at the bottom of it and you can open it from there, but its not let me down and been in for 3 years

The guy said it was ok for mine it had a baffle, who am i to argue with a cheaper part (it had very slight damage )

Well the description said it had centre baffles. Is there a way to check whilst on the vehicle?
That's why I was asking about temp across top of rad, you can check it with both hoses off and use a torch and a small mirror, shine torch in one end look for light with mirror the other end if you can see light the baffle is not right.

Ok, so the right hand sight of the radiator is hot, the left hand is cold, which I assume is correct and that it has a baffle.

Interestingly, I noticed that the Viscous fan had come off when I checked (doh!?!)! So I put it back on and nipped it up a bit tighter this time!

I drained the system again and stuck a hose pipe down the top hose. Couldn't get it down the expansion bottle but then refilled with coolant, with top off et etc. And took it out for another run.

The temp still starts going up after pushing it hard. However, now I only need to increase the revs to 1000rpm to get it to come down (rather than 2500rpm).

What part of the system is linked to engine speed? I can only think the waterpump? Also, the aircon has never worked. I'm wondering if I turn the aircon actually off, whether that may make a difference as it should disengage the aircon clutch?
