another newby that needs help please

hi people iv got a 1999 freelander on a t plate 3dr 1.8 petrol its my first landy iv had it about 2-3 months now and as iv been told they have there little probs so hear goes 1.on full lock (eather way) the stearing went heavy made a noise then a clunk then it was fine no more heavy stearing 2. when it running for a bit it cuts out even when im driving or just waiting in traffic wait for 5mins then it goes again 3. just been hit with the snow in scotland and 4wd not working rear wheels just spin i dont now if the noise from the heavy stearing has anything to with the front wheels not helping if anyone could through some light on any of the above i would be greatfull thanks ........

had one! sold it... underpowered, unreliable, and more trouble than they are worth. the 1.8 is a troblesome money pit. Hate to be so blunt but its a fact.

check underneath engine bay fuse box - known for corroding. If rear wheels spin, then VCU is either working or locked solid - check it search
