Hi All,

Just thought i would pop in and say hello.

Just bought a 2003 td4 gaylander from a mate which has been sitting on his drive for a year.

When he last drove it, it chucked a lot of black smoke out the back and stopped running. Garage told him to uneconomical to repair

Anyway bought it for peanuts so gonna try and either repair or fit a replacement engine.

Anyone have any ideas on the original failure ? Turbo failure or oil starvation ?

Kev

check the turbo hoses especailly the right angled one, strip down inlet manifold, good clean etc. start from there really. Hard to say really, stopped running could mean anything, fuel pump, filter, relay. need more info!!! Welcome anyway!!!!

Yeh gonna start stripping it and trying to diagnose next week, but may just see if i can source a replacement naked engine for it

Stopped running was the description i got from him aswell.

In other words ive blown it up somehow and there was loads of black smoke.

plenty of engines on fleebay for around 400-600 quid insh. probably the best option and if you have the space either strip the old one down for spares or sell seperatly to get your cash back!

You never know you might have a bit of a bargain there...as said earlier, check all of the hoses and the crankcase breather (pcv) filter as this can cause oil blowback through the dipstick and take the turbo with it but do all the easy stuff first before you start ripping it apart....

Got a few watched now on fleabay.

Stripped the rear brakes down today and freed them up as they had seized from standing. A good clean and there all fine now.

Waiting for a Haynes Manual and Workshop Manual from fleabay then gonna strip the current engine out.

Car has done 112k so contemplating a refurbed VCU aswell
