Good morning.
I picked up my new 94 300TDi manual last night, just over 100k miles and loads of service histroy. Really happy with it and it rides really well.

Question I have is, the power seems to be really low. On a flat road, I can get it up to 65 mph (eventually) but when you hit any sort of hill the speed starts dropping. There seems to be very little 'go' at all. I am going to take it to a dealer for a once over soon (next couple of week), but just said I would check on here in the meantime.

I am new to Landys and would appreciate your opinions on what to look for.

I think its your lift pump, almost identical symptoms to my 300tdi when the pump on it failed, and even the sameish mileage.

Suprisingly the 300tdi injection pump can pull the diesel out the tank and allow the engine to run OKish.

Check in the defender area under 'Cheer me up' post, I have explained the lift pump check procedure there if you are not familiar.

Thanks for the replies. Having driven it a bit more, there is very little power available and getting it above 3k rpm in 3rd or 4th is near impossible. 5th will only hold speed on a flat road.

Apols for ignorance, but where is lift pump located? Is it in the tank or can I get at it quickly? I may bring it to a dealer for a 'once over'.

Facing the engine from the front, its on the left hand side, its on the side of the engine, its about the size of a cup, and will have 2 pipes, one from tank and one to the filter assy, and a little lever on the side of it.

What about cleaning the intercooler. I will be doing mine soon. Mine runs fine 95mph. Which I am told is good for standard form. But it had only done small mileage when I got it. I have done a few motorway sprints and it seems to have blown the cobwebs out. Put some redex in aswell. See http://www.landroverdiscovery.net/ this guy has guides on all sorts of mods.

Hi, I've got a 95 reg. 300 tdi and I gave it a service, cleaned the intercooler out with some gunk, took the small white plastic restricter out of the fuel pump and blanked off the egr. Result.... pretty damn good. Regards
