i have used the search and it hasnt given me the answers i need so here goes lol . my 200tdi lacks low down power , on some hills ( on road ) round here i have to use low range to pull off cos it wont pull off in high range without slipping the clutch to death and it will only rev to a maximum of 3500 rpm . once she is above about 1800 rpm she pulls well and will easily keep up with any other shoguns or similair and will pull upto about 90mph no problem . a few diesel fitters i have spoken to in work reckons its the fuel lift pump but that where i need the answers .
i know if there is no resistance on the plunger it is fooked but i have got a tiny bit of resistance on the last 3 or 4 mm of travel is that normal or not and also they said there might not be resistance because it works off a pushrod and the pushrod might be on the bottom of its stroke so am i right in thinking that the plunger should move up and down when the engine is running because it dont .
i havnt changed the fuel filter yet becuase im afraid that if the lift pump has gone i wont be able to prime the system to get it started .
thanks in advance
Darren

if you fill the fuel filter before you fit it you won't need the lift pump anyway, it'll self bleed.
change ALL filters an and clean out the sedimenter bowl (if it has one on a 200tdi?) an see if that does the trick, if not give us another shout an we'll sort you out.
dirty filters mean poor fuel economy and poor performance, so get the buggers changed an stop making excusses:rolleyes:

Dunno about your lift pump but discos are notoriously crap at low revs especially when cold. There are a few easy adjustments you can make that will improve things no end. Have a look at http://www.stonefisk.com/doc-arc/def_man/ThermoGuard_Tdi_Tuning_Rev.2.pdf obviously you need to ensure that everything is as it should be, ie good filters, no mechanical issues etc, before making any changes. I've fiddled with mine and made a lot of difference.

you maybe right about filling the filter up with diesel so it ll self bleed cos i run out of diesel last week  and she restarted after putting some back in ( my fault for wanting to save 1p a litre and driving past the first garage hoping to get to my local asda filling station when the needle was on the red  ) so ill try that over the weekend and im afraid to touch the sedimenter bowl incase its so badly rusted it falls to bits and adds more work but i cant shy away from it forever lol .

thanks for the link hughsey and i may try some of it soon just to get some more low down power but im afraid cos im getting just over 30mpg at the mo and i cant afford to run her if she gets any thirstier :(
by the way i even tried cleaning the intercooler out a couple of months ago and replaced a few worn looking pipes with silicone ones

The tweaks I've done based on that info haven't affected the fuel consumption.
I will second this, also after winding everthing up its only as thirsty as the weight on ya right foot! My fueling and turbo is wound to the max, Now if i drive like an old fart on a sunday looking for a picnic site its as economical as fook, however if i boot it i create my own personal smoke screen, and it accelerates like a fookin porsche! And it also drinks fuel like a sewer eats shiat!
The answer your lookin for is do ya lift pump, wind ya injector pump up, wind ya turbo up :D:DENJOY:D:D

Oh and change ya fookin filters :p Can make a world of difference on its own!
