rite as you may of seen in some of my older posts i cant make up my mind for which engine to use in my next project. all that i no is that i want a autobox.

i dont want to go down the road of the tdi's there just a bit to slugish for my liking. and a v8's a no no because i want it as a daily driver.

so i was thinking, my old mans just bought a p38 diesel and that runs along quite nicely. i think it shares the autobox from the disco 2 but the transfer box runs along the left hand side of the car instead. so i wouldnt be able to use that.

so heres the thought, buy a knackered out rangie and rebuild the engine then find a disco autobox and t box. and if im right in thinking they should all bolt together. then go to ashcrofts and buy there compushift to control the g box.

i know it will be a tight fit in the defender engine bay but i will have a measure up tommorow.

so whats everyone think about that then :D

hi , i,m also doind conv. thinking about a merc 2.5td but if it milage to the gallon then why not go for bmw 3.5 petrol with lpg i,ve hered they wil fit to a autobox

what about a td5 much easier to fit you can get over 200hp out of one with the right mods, reliable, fairly simple and sound good, also saves all the messing around with transfer boxes ect ?

yeh i was tthinking of that route but its all the mods that are the expensive route. a hybrid turbo through alive tunings well over a grand

Can I ask why you would need 200bhp?

Getting all the electrics to work would be a nightmare, a nice 300tdi IMO minimal electrics and a reliable engine if you keep on top of servicing :)

How about a BMW M57TUD30 2,993 cc (2.993 L; 182.6 cu in) 204 PS (150 kW; 201 hp)@4000, 410 N·m (300 lb·ft)@1500-3250 Redline 4750 2003 model
same family as range rover unit but much better performance . Jeremy Fearn has fitted a fair few .

rite picture this. your sat at the lights at some dirty little scrot of a boy racer pulls up along side you and gives you a dirty look. lights turn green you put your foot down and **** all over him. Thats what i like doing you should see the look on their faces.

yeh but you cant do what i just said with a 300tdi

well true but i still but i still like to see there faces turn

I can admit, I would love to have that much torque, people bang on about bhp but it means nothing when you can only go 70mph in this country, my 200tdi hasn't been tuned and it will do 70 no probs, so if mine, which has at the most 111bhp, can do 70, I can't see what the point of having any more bhp is, I'd rather tune an engine for torque :D Horsepower sells, torque wins races :D This is my opinion obviously, if you like a car with 200bhp then that's your opinion and I respect that  (It's just pointless) :D
