morning guys.

got this data cable for the eas system.
installed the software.
all seems fine.

but ...

it dosnt select any com port i try putting Manuel in.
win 10 apparently dosnt have com ports ?

i tried installing the software on a win xp and 7 laptop and it dosnt let me as there is no updates anymore for both systems. so im stuck on that too.

earlier it told me update it? i have no idea how because it dosnt say update / give me the option.
other then paying rsw 187 dollar which i dont.

i have no guarantee it would fix the problems for good.

coil conversion cost 200 and stops hassle. lol. ( i know. dont mention it. lol but my mechanic says its 1 day and working without the car give me more **** )

I'm slightly confused by your post but I think you bought an RSW cable, from RSW?
If that is correct, then contact Storey and explain your issue. He will tell you how to sort it.

Did you do the software install be for plugging the cable in, because if you plug cable in first it will load a generic driver and not the right one.

didnt think it would make a difference ?

sorry. yes i got this eas cable from an member on here.

So software before cable is right? Yes @brianp38dse ?
Storey is the guy behind RSW.
There are a few threads about this sort of issue knocking about the site.

Although good old computer remedies might work. Try uninstalling and re-installing :)

just done it. hope it works now.
also forcing my win7 notebook to install the software. at least win7 let you choose the com port.
if it needs a hammer i will use one.

rsw dosnt help unless you buying the software. ( they asking for the purchase proof of the software )
already communicated with them. sorry not paying 187 dollar for it.

so if it dosnt work now on my win 10 and i cant get it work on the win7 my only fast and cheap option is what no one likes. remove the eas system and burn it and get the car on coils.
i cant see another way to get it running.
i have no willpower spending 1000s in it.
especially now i have the other half in my neck telling me i bought as useless car for money i could use otherwise buying a running one.

For the software to work the computer must have net framework installed. For later laptops with no serial port you will need a serial to USB adaptor. DO NOT attache EASunlock cable and adaptor to computer until you have loaded the serial to USB driver.

great now i have to learn computer software writing too ?
i have no idea.
xp was so easy. win 10 is absolute rubbish/ everything you want to do on it is finding out how forst.
whoever designed that is an absolute a@@@@.
sorry for the rant. it seems and never ending time consuming not coming close to a result task.

just smashed my win 7 laptop with an hammer.
( sorry i do know how to upload pictures )

didnt want to connect to the internet. connected to the wireless but not intenet. telling me unable due being discontinued. after trying for 20 minutes i had already enough.
now i discontinued his life. hammer and sorted.

now trying the next.

seems the win 10 is to complicated for me to find what i need. im used to tabs and phones press the app open and works. not knowing how to get it working.

there is nothing about serial to usb downloads/

If you plan on keeping the RR you are going to need a decent diag tool or deep pockets to pay someone. I think you need to be fair with RSW, you get stuff by other means then expect them to support you.
Even if you put it on springs something else will break and will cost you money. A decent diag tool will pay for itself in the first few uses. And if you do do the work yourself there are lots of people on here that are willing to help.
There is no need to give up yet.
You could have got a lot of brownie points by posting pic's of the smashed up laptop, we like pic's specially if it shows violence against machines :D

Buy yourself a cheap old serial port laptop, as long as it has windows net framework 3 or better i think, just plug the serial connector in and it will work. If you had obtained your EASunlock from Keith you get a cable, the software and a copy of RAVE. It's time you started listening or people will cast your problems aside.

i have an laptop which connects the cable to com 3 now.
its frustrating if nothing bloody work.

it comes up with driver error.
and outdated.

i can not find anywhere to update it.

Try this process:
  • Open windows device manager
  • Select COM3 properties, then Driver tab & then uninstall / remove driver.
  • Then find the driver for the cable. (might be on Keith's CD if he made the cable? )
  • Make sure cable is disconnected from laptop.
  • Install the driver manually, making sure you do NOT allow windows to "search for better driver"
  • Finally connect the cable, and it should show up as COM3 again.

Told you you need Microsoft net framework loaded or it won't work.

Thanks Pete.
i didnt get the cd with the cable. its from an member on here. he cant find the cd. didnt think its important.

but it looks like the better half managed to get it on and working.
it looks from the laptop like its ready to do his thing.

now in process of all that i forgot the ignition in the car is on including doors open for the last 5 hours.

batterie needs to recharge first before i can try. guess about 8 pm before i can try.

There is no need to connect to the internet to run the EAS software unless netframework is not installed. On Win 7 and Win 10 it should already be there
The comm port is selected in the drop down menu from the EAS opening screen top left corner. ALL the comm ports are there on Win 10, normally it's comm 4 that works.

Told you you need Microsoft net framework loaded or it won't work.

i kmow you did.
done that but my laptop still didnt want me to work with it. saying this. that thing dosnt like a lot of things how it seems.
now w tried it on a win 7 laptop. looks like is working.
it dosnt say update driver. it actually says the device is working properly. lets just hope it is working now.

sorry for ranting but if nothing gets me anywhere i just get really easy frustrated.

maybe time to have a rest and something proper to eat after a week of frustrating range rover experiences.

The EAS software usually uses comm 4 with Win 10 the built in driver might work, it did for me.
