Iv still be lurking every now and again. Yep i have Ben really busy he past few months, Iv moved premises with work so I lost the use of the unit we had before, but there should be some spare room come summer so I can continue.

I hope I get the fuel tank and filler sorted this weekend - don't know what's going on there. Can't understand why it doesn't all line up

Bad news about that unit. I was green with envy over that. Hope you get some decent space sorted in the summer.

No play yesterday as it rained all day. Was forecast rain today, but it didn't arrive. Bitter cold though!
Anyway, this allowed me to get out and get some work done. Took the fuel tank out and it's now on the conservatory floor.

I'm thinking I'll have to cut some of this pipe back and then plumb an elbow on to it. Does anyone know how copper pipe copes with diesel? Should be ok, shouldn't it?
Being impatient to make some progress, I thought stuff it. When I get the tank vent pipe sorted I'll refit the tank lying on my back. This is because I wanted to fit the sills and seat box. Which is what I did



You can't see very well, but there are foam rubber seals between all joining surfaces.
Small progress, but it is progress Until I find a problem with it and it all has to come out!

I've been googling the use of copper pipe in diesel fuel lines. It's not a popular thing to do.
I've been googling stainless and brass fittings, but struggling to find something I can use. Anyone know of any good sites that supply such things.

All my fuel pipe and fittings came from SSL diesels. About £35 delivered although the 10mm brass compression fittings are cheaper at screwfix.

Couldn't find anything on the SSL site, Discokids. Big site mind, so might have missed stuff. I've bought some 90 degree 12mm plastic elbows off ebay. Claim to be usable for fuel. And some stainless jubilee clips. I'm hoping there's enough of the vent tube to cut some pieces off the end to join the elbows together.

Are they push fit? At work we sometimes get asked to go and repair chemical dosing pumps that are mysteriously drawing in air. Upon arrival it's nearly always because the suction line has been previously extended/bodged with a push fit connector. They only work under positive pressure.
If you want stainless small bore pipe and fittings, we use a place called seagull stainless, it's in West Bromwich but they post. There's probably hundreds of others but we've only ever used them and I've never asked why, their stuff is top notch and they deliver or post.

Not push fit, mate. Called barbed elbows. This is them LINKY That's why I've bought the jubilee clips.
I can't understand why the damn stub end pipe from the tank doesn't line up with the hole in the tub! It must be an aftermarket mishap.

Oh I see! And you didn't want to drill a new hole why? Because of the galv? It's a long shot, but could you take your tank to a radiator repair place or similar, have them cut that stub off and move it to where it should be? A bit extreme I know, but less joints.

Yeah, I don't want to drill a hole because I've bought a specific galvanised repair panel from YRM. Plus, it would have to be 22mm diameter, which is canny big! Hadn't thought of having the tank altered, but sound like a bit of work that'll cost a few quid. I know it's not ideal, having the joints in, but it seems like my best option and not the end of the world. Not great either

Well, some bits have arrived through the post.

The passenger side tubular outrigger is 13mm out of place! So, I can't bolt the outrigger bracket to the tub. That's a lump of 12mm flat bar to use as a spacer. The plan is to shape it, drill holes for the bolts and then get it galvanised.
The 90 degree tube connectors are to enable me to route the fuel breather tube through the bulkhead and hit the corresponding tube of the fuel tank. So, I can get the fuel tank back in again!
Unfortunately, the forecast here is a bit cold and snowy over the weekend

Having said that, this is the only fault I've found with it. I suppose it's a significant discrepancy, but manageable.

..............it is irritating though!

Woke to a covering of snow this morning
But, at midday some light appeared (could barely call it sunshine) and it started to melt
Started getting my warm layers on and opened the door to this.

Oh bugger ay, that's not the weather to be working in!
Started ****ing it down here earlier, luckily I'm hiding in the garage today, I have enough of working in the rain at work.

OO, I, the garage.
I sawed some wood up this afternoon in preparation for the rugby and stood and took a long look in to the garage!
We are forecast more snow here overnight, supposedly enough to 'cause disruption' in the morning. So looking at it I thought, 'if there's no working on the drive tomorrow, I must tidy the garage up'

I think it needs it

Yeah, does look good in the picture. Probably looks like a bit more of an impressive tower in the pic than it did in real life. That's shorter bits for the conservatory wood burner. I'd cut longer bits for the living room fire. Planning on warming the conservatory to use it as a workshop tomorrow. The Mrs should be ok about it
