Another one to play with. Picked it up this evening. Runs.....just. Bad misfire and not enough power to drive onto trailer! Story is PO changed cambelt and water pump. Car started and drove a few miles then cut out. Sounds like timing has jumped or it's firing on one! Can the belt slip?? Good condition 2002 GS.

Sounds like it in the sort of condition as the one @htr bought. He's had many years good service out of his, but he had to put a lot of effort in to get it that way. PO had tried a belt change and cocked it up.

After many years of experience in a number of different areas, I have come to the conclusion that it is far easier to cock something up than it is to get it right.

It is one of my many sayings...'why does nothing go right by accident!' Btw I think the cam belt theory might be wrong. After a night on the trailer it started and ran well today!!!

Cleaned plugs. Cleaned and adjusted spark plug springs. Cleaned coil pack connections. Faults all cleared. Drives ok. Still slight tickover 'hunt' rev counter moves a needles width. No fault codes have returned, may need a run. Can't be that easy?!?!

Can't be that easy?!?
You'll be surprised at the number of people that ask me why there car has a misfire, but haven't bothered to check or replace the spark plugs. It seems to be out of fashion to clean/replace them, even though plugs have a finite life span.

I use NGK Iridium Spark Plugs in my bike, expensive but worth it. Always the first thing I change when/if I buy a second hand bike. I check them every month and give them a gentle clean if needed - my bike has been tuned and is very sensitive to dirty or wrongly gapped plugs.
