Anglesey ...

So, off to Anglesey from Saturday.

Map is a bit ambiguous and I've never been before other than driving through from Holyhead/Ireland Ferries, so have no clue locally ... does anyone have any interesting green-lanes, routes, even normal roads that are a bit different? Looks like there are some 'normal' but interesting roads on the map, but no marked BOATS, can anyone confirm this, or point me to a couple of locations?

Possibly could also do Northern Snowdonia, Flint, North Wales roughly .. so any other pointers for lanes around the area. I just don't have time to research properly at the mo' ... I can guarantee I won't cut the lanes up and I won't broadcast them to all and sundry ...

Not much in the way of proper lanes here but plenty of nice places to drive. One that needs driving more often is a little track from near Bodorgan station that is getting very overgrown. Go past the station and take the first left marked unsuitable for vehicles. Follow the road down under the railway bridge then push your way through the undergrowth down to the ford. Through the water and out the other side and it comes out near to the village of Llangadwaladr. Don't do it if you like your paint though as the blackthorn hedges will have it off. One that's out of bounds but would be really great is the track from the breakwater park in Holyhead up to the old signal station on North Stack. Some really steep rocky sections. It is driveable but no access allowed.

Heh, looks nice that, down into the valley, cross the river and out the other side of the valley ... A few more scratches and dings won't even be noticed!!

Yeah, been looking up there, but they look like they're all marked footpaths etc. Might have to visit the local council offices, or at least make a few phone calls while there ... Many thanks.

There aren't any legally driveable lanes on H/H mountain though it's covered in old tracks that are mostly behind locked gates.

Got back last night .. on the back of a tow-truck!

Had a great week, did many of the lanes sent to me by pm, many, many thanks, and to Hughesy, that Bodorgan lane was a bit scratchy, but different! We also found a couple of extras that run along seafronts, on the sand/mud ... legal, marked in stones and well dodgy at high-tide!

Had an issue about thursday, front UJ 'went' on front prop .. no worries, just (I think) a pin out of a cup, and so a bit of squeaking and a bit of a vibration, rear felt absolutely fine .. but like a tw@t I'd had a spare UJ in my hands as we were leaving home and instead of putting it in the Disco, left it on the kitchen sideboard!. Wasn't worried, drove round on it after greasing it well and all was as well as could be expected .. then coming home on M62 the rear UJ went and took the prop with it!.. Flange looks like it's broke at the gearbox end, the extending portion of the prop is missing and the rest of the prop is well bent. Floorpan looks a bit battered and there might be issues with both diff and gearbox flanges and input/output shafts. Ah well, sh1t happens, but no money available and other stuff happening so won't be able to get it done for a fortnight at least, so off-road till then ..

I'm guessing the front UJ was vibrating so much it fecked up the rear which let go big style. Won't know till I remove it all. We took the diff flange and rest of prop off so we could be recovered and drive it with centre diff-lock on, worked fine ... but didn't want to drive it all the way home (about 65 miles), towing the caravan with the wife and kids in and with the weather absolutely persisting it down, so got recovered to home ... after all we pay for it on the caravan insurance anyway!

Luckily I've got it on our caravan space and can leave it jacked up etc so no problems getting the work done other than time and money, doubt we can afford a new propshaft at the mo', thobut ..

Glad you had a good time mate at least the breakdown come at the end of the trip and didn't spoil it completely.
