Hi,
Thought I'd have a go at moving into the 21st century. Wish I hadn't!!

Bought a wireless android auto display to fit in car and hopefully to link to phone for navigation etc.
Phone links with Bluetooth fine, android auto app installed fine.
Absolutely nothing happens on screen or to phone when connected.

Have tried an Android 8 and an Android 10 phone.
What trick have I missed please??
Cable connection is not provided on the unit I have only wireless.

Do I need Android 11???
Many thanks, hate this new tech!! But it does good when it works I suppose!!

No, Android auto is backwards compatible. However up to Android 9 inclusive, you needed to install the Android Auto app.
Android 10 has built in Auto support, so it should work without the app. Either with the app (9 or older) or without (10 and after) it should just pair with the phone and work.

Many thanks. Does that apply to wireless?? I can't plug in to try it out as there is no connector fitted.
Android 8 with app and Android 10 without don't work at all.
Bluetooth and audio works fine. No icons appear on new screen and nothing happens to phone either.

Thanks again.

It is a simple add on touch screen with Apple and Android set up options.
When I connect the blue tooth it connects, I can play music through it but nothing on either the phone screen or the add on screen changes at all. It is like Android Auto isn't booting up.

Tried reloading the Auto App and no change.
Frustrating, have referred to seller who is asking the technical guy.

Ok so your phone is sending music, so it's connected to the phone, at least for music playback.
Maybe the unit you've been sent is faulty?

Thanks, yes that is possible.
On tech like this I always assume I am doing sommat wrong first!!

Give me electromechanical problems any day!!

Much reading and learning, I keep finding the same guidance....
Generally speaking, the vast majority of phones released in the past three to four years will work with a wireless Android Auto adapter. The exact requirements are as follows:

  • Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy device with Android 10 or higher
  • Select Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 9.0 or higher (Galaxy S8, Note 8)
  • Any Android smartphone running Android 11 or higher
  • All devices need 5GHz (Direct) Wi-Fi support

Anyone confirm or deny please??

Most Chinese android devices use Bluetooth for the Audio connection, but WiFi for the screen mirroring.

Is WiFi enabled on the phone ? Also look in the phone Bluetooth & Wi-Fi settings after pairing. There should be options for different modes, where you can enable Android Auto.

Read this page & check developer settings as well.

Otherwise send the eBay seller a message & ask them for the correct procedure, or user manual PDF.

IMG_20220717_161801.jpg Thanks guys. Have had a look at the you tube, appears to apply to cabled versions of auto. No additional settings appear on WiFi which I have enabled.

Bluetooth connects and then I get the screen shown and nothing else happens, no booting of auto on the phone or any change on the screen.

Hi, yes went through that, when done it just sits there looking at me!!

Nothing appears to boot the Auto App. On the you tube it boots when the android device is plugged in. Perhaps I was being too smart and wanted wireless and no cables!!

I believe android auto supports wireless communication. Maybe you have to set it up with the cable first?

I never had an issue with the Mazda android functionality, it just connected each time I got in the car. The Freelander BT phone connection is the same, fire up the ignition and the phone is connected in a few seconds to receive and make calls. Unfortunately LR didn't give the factory HU the ability to stream audio though. :(

What sort of phone do you have?

My reccommendation would be to first try getting it running with a cable, if/when you get it running while connected by cable, you can look at advancing to wireless connection either via bluetooth / wifi. make sure it is a power and data cable not the cheaper power only cable you use to connect the phone to the "gadget" (it's not a headunit so I don't know what to call it) run the android auto app on your phone, see what happens.

Good plan, but there is a problem with that. The device is wireless only and has a power socket and nothing else!!
That would get my vote otherwise. Might swap it for a cabled one but would like to try an Android 11 phone first but haven't got one!!

Many thanks. The Motorola is less than 12 months old. But in the phone world that is a decade!!!

Time for an upgrade I think.
I have made it clear to the seller that there is no mention of the compatibility requirements.
