hi guys, fuel pump died earlier and had to be towed back home
popped in to eurocarparts and i have the exterior pump and not the one in the tank. he said pierburg pump is £133. ive read a few times on here and other websites that u should only fit a land rover one but i'm just wondering who make land rover ones? i know pierburg are a great manufacturer so ieve if they dont make the land rover one it should be good to use unlike the cheap and nasty 3rd party pump...
thanks
Paul

who make land rover ones?

good question :)

recently had mine replaced at an LR dealership .. they only use LR parts
cost of pump £159 .. no mention of brand on the box ..
only clue was "made in poland"

( as the old one was still operational .. but noisy ..
( they returned the old one in the new one's box ..
( i didn't see the new pump itself

invoice sais " ELR023043 .. fuel pump - SECO .. "

might be a bosch .. or might not be ..
be very quiet in operation .. can hardly hear it when switching on the ignition ..

LR did use bosch pumps .. whether they still do be unknown to moi

Did mine 3 years ago. Think is was a Bosch. No problems with it. A good opportunity to change the fuel filter at the same time. It may be a good idea to have some small nuts and bolts to hand. When I did mine the original rivets that hold the cover on to the metal bracket crumbled and fell into multiple pieces.

Genuine one for the sole pump in the wheel arch is cheaper then euro car parts even after any discounts!

Always get a quote from your local LR dealer first so at least you know what the correct genuine price is!

hi guys. thanks for the replies. ended up getting a pierburg one from ecp for £126. i was very happy to see the pierburg stamp on the pump coming out and the black rubber jacket as well  had some fun fitting it though but i took some photos going along so may do a how to for future diy'ers.
one main problem i had was some to$$er in the past had decided to angle grind one of the support brackets. the one on the left as you look at it thats riveted to the tray. looked around the parts diagrams but sadly looks like i have to buy the whole tray setup, either that or make up a bit of angle metal and a few bolts and nuts.
just need to get some arch lining rivets now as a few were sacrificed in the changing of both fuel pump and filter.
also does anyone know whether the arch liner sits inside the metal arch or between the metal arch and the outer plastic trim? spent about 10 mins faffing around with it just say sod it and push it all inside the arch behind the metal lip.

Hi every one, new to the forum and been on a mass learning curve again. Ive a 2004 td4 sport and 3 years ago the car stopped suddenly without warning while sitting at a rail crossing. Very unhappy as i only went to obtain KFC and was getting cold but now i had the strenuous task of pushing this hippo sized lump to the kerb.
After hunting high and low i eventually located that darned pump/filter location under the rear arch.
The pump had failed due to filter blocking which then stops the engine running to reduce the risk of the high pressure fuel pump getting screwed up.
1 x new filter and 1 x new pump later the car was running again BUT it had not run correct since. All this time later im thinking the fuel pump has been an issue causing my car to struggle over 70mph. It has made allot of noise since being installed and the misses had just passed her test so i was downgraded to the Astra and did not give it much thought since.
Now about to buy a new pump, a pierburg seems the better choice right now from Europarts(inc filter of course). Serves me right for buying the cheapest thing i could get my hands on back then and IF this corrects all the problems ill be kicking myself.

as like most things in life u do get what u pay for. the way i see it is if i'm doing the repair then i buy the best i can as i save on a garages labour charge. there are limits to my mechanical skills but most things i'll have a look at.
the cheap pumps can be problematic. i fitted one to my old passat. it was about £45 instead of £180 from VW/Pierburg. bloody thing was noisey and made different sounds when running. thank god i got rid of the car soon after.
just feel lucky u havent got the in tank pump as there alot more money than the arch pumps!!
