Just a quicky to introduce myself and say HI!!! to anyone and everyone who's interested!
I'm a "Born Again Landrover Lover After Copius Helpful Expertise" to the point of running the risk of becoming an acronym of the same.
My first Landy experience was with my Dad's Series I cab back in the late 60's. That was definitely a workhorse as he was building his own house (I was his 13/14 yr old unpaid labourer). That one's Reg No is/was LUN 62 - still out there perhaps? Much later I bought my own Series IIa, followed by a Series III, then a 90 (first half decent offroading experiences), and now another 90. This one is an old 1989(ish - there's many bits from later renditions) 90. The intention is to use, mending and enhancing as I go. Lots of issues, mostly of minor consequence, excepting a leaking offside rear hub. That gets fixed next week.
As for me, I'm an aircraft engineer of some 40+ years, mainly mechanical but done a bit of electrical, electronics and software since my time at Uni' as a mature student. After some 6 to 7 subsequent years in electronics/software, I reverted to my comfort zone - mechanical bits remain as mechanical bits and don't get changed by the time you get up the next morning.
I'm now heading into running my own jobbing workshop. Been doing consultancy work for a few years, but aware that as I get older I become less attractive both to the aerospace industry and the opposite sex. There's a guy at work who seemed to like me in an oddly persistent way when we first met, so maybe I'm unnecessarily OK with the same sex.
So; I'm an old and bold apprentice served, degree qualified, aerospace mechanical Engineer, with electronics and electrical capability, who's looking to give up a paid job and branch out into an unknown market - and who loves his latest Landy which is in need of TLC. What can go wrong???
