Firstly .. A quick hello from a new member, and secondly.... A confession.... I don't currently own a Land Rover.... Yet!

I'm wanting to change our current vehicle (about as far away from a Land Rover Disco as possible ! A 2011 Skoda Fabia VRS estate) due to needing to find a way to easily transport my wife's off-road mobility scooter. The scooter weighs just over 140 kilos.

So the 'easy' option is a trailer. Only problem is, it isn't easy as I don't really want the hassle of always taking a trailer whenever we go places with the scooter as parking will be a nightmare. Also, usefully my existing car can't have a trailer as it was never certified for towing.

Therefore, car change, what might the scooter fit in.... Nothing I really fancy driving !

By fluke, I stumbled across a site from the US called etrailers, which sells hitch mounted platforms with ramps that you can put wheelchairs and scooters onto 28x48 Hitch Mounted Wheel Chair and Scooter Carrier with 60" Long Ramp Rage Powersports Hitch Cargo Carrier SC500 perfect ! Realistically, chucking the best part of 200 kilos onto the back of a vehicle it seems that a 4x4 would be appropriate to help with ground clearance.

So then I start looking into how these mount onto vehicles, and it looks like a Discovery 3 could have the right kind of hitch mount, and tongue weight capability to cope with this sort of platform.

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this in the UK, or, even better, has personal experience.

Many thanks in advance

The problem with that option is even something colossal like a galaxy results in all the seats having to be folded into the floor to get it in! 7 sweater car with only 2 useful seats seems a bit of a waste ;)

As well as my d2 landy , I got a vito 115 duelliner xlwb . Not only can I get 5 adults in with loads of leg room . There still loads of room in the back . I can get my ride on mower or quad bike or even2 trail bikes in and still get 35plus a gallon , and with twin sliding door you can park in in tight spots and still get out without dinging doors . And the load deck is so much lower han my d2 As for tow bars just make shaw you get a flange type then you can bolt anything to it , weight permitting .

Exactly lower load height is important. A 4x4 would be too high. With Alu ramps required too you are gonna need a pretty big gap behind for loading etc and on a rainy day that ain't going to be fun.

If you want to buy into a group socially the vw lot are pretty good. Plenty of extras available to modify too.
