hi

I think my alternator has packed up, rev counter doesn't work and my battery light came on and stayed on. did a search on here and someone else had same symtoms and it was alternator that was at fault. i've got an old disco i'm using for spares, but that's a 95 basic model, and my new disco is a 98 es model will it fit and be alright?
do they charge at same voltage?

thanks

dont know about your alternator but have you gorra pic of where the sunroof switches are positioned what with it being an es model :D

ang on if the spares motor is the same engine i wouldnt have thought there'd be any difference's in the engine!!

The old and new alternators, if working correctly, charge at the same voltage.

However, before trying to change the alternator might I suggest that you try to re-attach the small single wire to the back of the alternator. The connections become degraded over time so the electrical contact is poor to none. Remake the connection and try running the engine.

Thanks for the replys

Ok i'll give that a go, i have already sprayed that connection with a bit of wd40 and put it on and off the alternator connection a few times to try and clean it up abit, but yeah i'll put a new connection on and go from there. Thanks

Also be aware that some alternator pulleys are different sizes to others, so might change the charging and rev counting values ... ;)

Tried putting new connector on small wire and no difference what's so ever!!

Had a look at my spare alternator and it is a bigger pulley, will the pulleys swap over or am i better of just getting a new one??

Yes pulleys should swap .. providing they're the same alternator, otherwise I dunno ...

Result!!!!

Swapped the pulleys, i did have to cut a boss off the pulley that was from my new landy, cause it stuck out further otherwise which would of made the belt run off true.

Put it back on, tested and seems to hav sorted it!

Thanks
