Hi everyone,

Not only am I having to contend with a diesel leak from my FIP at the moment my alternator has decided to start packing up as well.

Ive seen a few of you replacing your alternators recently and wondered where you had gone to get them?? Im looking around online at places like Island 4x4 etc and seeing prices of £200+ for the alternator.

Ive got a DSE with the 105amp alternator, is it worth repairing or should I shell out for a new one??

From what I can see in the parts catalogue there was only ever one alternator for the DSE and that was the 105amp one whereas the petrol ones had 100, 120 & 150amp versions. I take it the petrol ones dont fit the diesel?? Is it worth seeing if I can get hold of a higher amp unit or should I just stick at the standard 105amp unit??

My biggest dilemma is where to get the part from at the moment, whether to go genuine or aftermarket, where did you go to get yours??

Thanks for any help

I recently bought one for my bosses 4.0 and i got it from a place called Frogs Island 4x4 in Abingdon, only paid £80.00 including vat, dont think it was genuine as it came with no box, might be worth a try for a diesel one, i found them on the net
Hope this helps

Hi Wills-got a new (Not recon) Delco (OEM) from Paddocks for £100 last December and it is working fine for the past year Rimmers do a repair kit for the Diesel but not the Petrol. I took my old alternator into a specialist company for a check over and service when I had to change the engine 12 months ago and they said it was o.k. When the new engine was fitted and started the car, all the electrics started "Pulsing" and the regulator was shot so I decided to buy a new alternator rather than send the old one over to the U.K. for another service.
