No ah mite be as thick as ****e in the neck o a bottle but even me aint gonna go an try this....

Incidentally, on the way to the station this morning, the bloody light went out. Stayed out all the way there n back, then parked up at the mansion and the bloody thing came on again. Now it wont go out.

I suggest you check the wires on the back of the IGN switch real soon, to make sure they are all firmly attached, and not all fusty with corrosion.

There's a chance the switch's innards could be fusty ....

Your symptoms suggest it works sometimes, and then not.

Now check the wee wire all the way back from alternator to switch.

It's what Slob would call an Intermittent Fault.

It sure is intermittent! It chose to work almost all day today. It is however going to a mates tomorrow morning for him to have a look at. I shall report the findings tomorrow night!

Now then chasps, and 9 or 10 laydeez, it appears to be fixed! It wusnae a dodgy ammeter, nor a foosty ignition switch, but, can ee believe it, the ignition wire had been rubbing on the exhoost and a toaty wee bit o bare wire was showing thru and making an intermittent earth.

The autospark also rewired the lucas plug to make sure. We huv dun aboot 30 miles so far withoot seein the charge light.

Now I hear Charles say - he cud have fixed that himsel, and I'm sure I cud, had I spotted it. But I didnae. I might do annuther time tho.

What did I tell you!

If you had just done what I said you would have found the fault yourself, and an inch of tape would have fixed it!

But I think a new run of fresh cable is a good idea.
