hi all!!

my alternator has been playing up for months... all my lights have been pulsing, and just recently ive been blowing sidelight bulbs after about 10mins of use.

what is the correct part number im after as i seem to be finding 2 or 3 diffrent ones for the 300tdi mines is an R reg late 1997.

cheers
jimbo.

First things furst. Get yoself down to halfrauds and ask for a free battery and alternator check. Once yu have confirmed the alternator is faulty (ask for a printout) then look on yo alternator for any labels/ numbers. This shud tell yu what yu have fitted. Several interweb cross referencing sites are then available, but i reckon your regulator has packed up - its an easy diy fix.

i have a few month old red top optima battery so it wont be that. would the regulator not working mean i need a new alternator? or is that somthing different?
thanks
jimbo

Regulator is in back of alternator and very easy to replace but you should consider the age of the alternator. If getting some age on it, it may be wise to replace it with a exchange, or a new alternator.

i think its original so its been on for 12 years.
Not bad really!!
i will have to see if there is any numbers on it then to see which one i need.

do the new units that paddocks or craddocks sell any good???
thanks
james.

Not sure!! but there is a thread running in the range rover section on this forum that may interest you. [ paddocks supplied alternator]

I prefer Magnetti Marelli, but that is just a personal choice, if you can get a recon Marelli it should last.
