Alternator stopped charging intermittently, Replaced alternator brushes which had been effected by oil ingress. Replaced the battery, which had a faulty cell. All seemed well after this initially, but now ignition warning light staying on again. I thought that even with oil ingress that it would keep working for longer than 3 months? Cam cover leaking amongst others.
Mitsubishi have this problem & an alternator cover is available. Is there a protective cover available for Discovery2? We will get around to fixing the oil leaks eventually.

Probably cooked the regulator or diodes with a coating of oil, a strip and clean may do it but
Interceptorzj has hit the nail on the head, Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure :)

Same happened on my transit... Accidentally poured oil on the alternator whilst doing an oil change.... foobared it.

Thank you all for your comments. I have removed the alternator again & checked the brushes that I fitted, they look fine & only a very small amount of oil within the casing. My son fitted the battery & I noticed the terminals were slightly loose, but Landy started up first time every time after new battery was fitted. Not sure what to do now. We will replace cam cover gasket & isolators.
