i changed the alternator as the bearings were whirring on it
last thursday i put the new one on and it was fine, but now when i turn the ignition on "alternator fault" comes up on the dash.but when i turn the car straight on it doesn't display and the car is running fine.
could it be the onboard computer, or something else?
thanks

After checking that the wires are tight check the voltage from the signal wire at the back of the alternator (brown with a yellow stripe), this should have a voltage the same as the output to the battery (around 14.4).
Then check the voltage at the same wire where it enters the becam under the front seat, if you remove the fuse box lid the wire is accessible to the right of the fuses. The voltage should be the same as at the alternator. If not then this is what is causing the message i`ve had it myself, the usual culprit is a connector block found just under the radiator expansion tank, it gets damp from filling the water ect and corrodes causing a drop in the signal voltage.
Hope this helps
