had a cracking day out sunday, but towards the end of the day i noticed the battery guage needle was way down and the temp had gone up,pulled over to take a look and found the alternator belt had come off,we managed to get the belt back on but it promptly came off again after a minute or so,i havent checked yet as it was dark, but is it likely to be the belt just worn and not as taught as it should be,or could it be the alternator moved slightly,me mate reckons possibly the belt cos he says if the alternator hasnt moved you shouldnt be able to get the belt back on if its still tight, any thoughts

And while you are poking about there, make sure the pulleys are all in line.

The alternator alignment can go skew-whiff if things go wrong, and that causes severe wear on the drive belt and helps it to jump off.
