I'm lost and need some guidance.

On Saturday I lost the rev gauge then shortly after the battery light came on I was half way to or from anywhere so I limped it to where I was going and charged the battery.
I then managed to limp home.

I got on eBay and ordered a new alternator and it arrived today, fitted it to the the old girl and had to jump start her.

After 1 minute of being hooked up to another truck she started and ran but now I have no rev gauge any ideas?

I checked connections and I checked fuses (not that I know if it has a fuse, but none under the dash was blown.

have you got the rev counter wire ( brown) on the correct terminal - "w" i think. also are you sure that the connector is a good one.
as for having to to a heavy jump start, thats not really suprising cos with your alternator being cacci you'll no have any juice left in the battery - unless you charged it and failed to mention in your post.

Hi trax thanks for getting back to me.

I have checked pin is on the correct terminal (w) connection is good, connector is good.

Can I check the alternator is sending signal? And where dose it go after it hose to the loom.

I have no computer at the moment and I hope the haynes manual gets dropped off this weekend.

Thanks for your time

no hence the jump start why has this made a differance?

i have no choice i dont have a batery charger at this time?

i have jumpstarted the old girl before a few years ago never blown nothing on her before.

I know its a catch 22,been there many times myself. But a dead flat battery is often too much work for a new alternator and is a quick killer.Mad hat said something about this recently,I think.....have a search around.

Aldi and lidl got cheap but decent chargers coming up.

up - it puts too heavy a load on the alternator and it frys :(. charge the battery first, The alternator is designed to keep it topped up, not to charge it from flat.

So you saying I bugged my new alternator then? Grate!

Ok where do I go from here as I used the old girl today and she won't hold charge.

Alternator charging on tick over at 13.6 volts. Guess I done the battery and she won't hold charge either.

Ok ill go for that on Monday as I don't have time to sort it now as I'm out tomorrow. Thanks for your advice.

Keep you informed as soon as I know anything

Once again thanks

ok fitted new hd battery and found its gone from 12.7 to 11.8 volts over night what is going on? im confused now.

put the truck on charge as im in the poo without it by next weekend, i charged the old one up and guess what its at 12.8 volts.

i will goto get the batery and alternator tested tomorrow when places are open but this is getting to me now, how can i check the starter isnt draining the battery now just need to rule it out as i think the alternator is fryed and possibly draining the battery or not putting current into the battery.

cheers
baz
