hi guys i was just wondering it its possible to pour cooking oil/olive oil/peanut oil into the fuel tank and run it with that?would be really cool.just for the sake of coolness ***

the cav pump generally doesn't like it. But yes, you could and it would run.. maybe for a long time, maybe for a short time. :)

pumps aren't cheap.

From what I've gathered people say( I have no experience) when weather is below 0 don't use any , in anything over 4-5 cenegrade (at night) run about 50/50 (diesel and veg oil) this is because diesel is needed to keep the pump lubricated and the oil is thicker and won't do this, but as you know the hotter oil is the thinner, that's why I said about those temps above. Also remenber I think it's £400 for a new pump (I think that's just the part!) so think before you act, as a mini disclaimer, I have no experience, I have only read things, I think it's possible but in this weather maybe not recommendable

I have run my series 3 on 50/50 bio diesel and mineral diesel with mixed results.
First off I have spare pumps so could risk any problems. One downside is the Landie, me and my clothes all smelt like a chippy that needed to change its frying oil and another downside is smoke from the engine when it did not smoke before. I believe bio fuel purges the system and creates the smoke. Mine took around a month to clear after I stopped using it. Not enough of a cost saving to continue the trial as you can buy a lot of fuel for the cost of a pump if it goes tits up and the saving is only around 30p a litre.
I was not convinced I had the power from the engine when running bio fuel.

really??? diesel round here is £1.45 ish, i pay 70p a litre for filtered oil and mix with bio at £1 a litre, so for arguements sake 85p a litre all in saving 60p a litre

i get through 300 litres a month so save £180 a month, £2160 a year minimum and been running like that for over 5 years, 2 years of that i had free oil supplied so reckon ive saved £12000 minimum

for me its a no brainer

cheers steve

i have a friend to puts 30 pound derv and 10 pound petrol in his series 3 derv and has been doing for 6 years plus and never not problem, but i dont fancy trying it!

Veggie oil cleans your pipes out so you need to change your fuel filter regularly, it also eats into older seals so you can start to have leaks. Bosch fuel pumps are happier, as are Japanese ones. Lucas pumps don't like it apparently. Straight veggie oil is not that much cheaper than diesel, I used to try used veggie oil, but supplies are erratic. You need to own a chip shop or a field of rape seed.i gave up in the end, too much hassle for the miles I do, although a friend bought a bio diesel converter to run business vehicles successfully.

Cheapest bio around by me is £1.05 regular diesel £138/£140
I run around 300 miles per week in series 3 as a daily driver so wish i could find a regular supplier to give it a good trial.
