ALRC Regs, Posted here cos no-one looks in the other bit.

Stupid question maybe. I know there has always been a rule about fitting an extra throttle spring on the carb, but I am about to start trialling a diesel for the first time so I wondered if this reg still applied as the injection pump has a good spring already. Problem is, i've been looking through the ALRC regs and can no longer find the regulation at all, not even for petrol engines.

so two questions.

1 does this reg still exist?
2 If yes, does it apply to diesels?

according to my good friend who has done a lot of scrote in ear ing, yes and yes. You do need an EXTRA spring on the IP.

It doesn't say how strong though, you can get away with a biro spring if you wanted.

if a biro spring is strong enough to close yer carb/IP then that'll be fine cos that's what it's designed to do

It would be hard to better the integral TDi pump spring tho. Its interesting because I cant find a reg that says "second" spring, only that there must BE A spring.. I'll fit one, for what it takes but I'm still not sure its needed. As said tho, a Biro spring complies.

It's an MSA rule that the ALRC have to comply with. The rule has been changed slightly as it doesn't apply to drive by wire.
It had already been changed slightly as I believe it requires a spring on the final stage, i.e carb sprindle or injector pump, but no longer requires an additional one if that is where the standard one is.
Don't quote me though!
