Hi all,

Many thanks for the help regarding wether I should keep my diesel disco for towing or chage for the petrol / lpg route.

Anyway following the advice offered on here I have made enquires regarding possible tuning options etc.

I have used specialists J E Engineering in Coventry previously and as expected they do have a specific tune for the later model 300tdi auto's.

My question is that they do an additional 'gas flow' conversion on the intercooler. Not fully sure what this entails but the exisiting intercooler is used. This conversion is an additional £130 + vat and gives an additional 10 bhp on top of the tune.

Do you think the £130 would be money well spent or should I change the existing intercooler for an uprated one for a 300tdi auto with aircon.

Many thanks

Mark

Full size intercooler everytime + 30% or more from tickover if fuelled correctly, by far the best mod for the power/money on any 200/300TDi.
Can highly recommend the Allard one, just make sure they send the right fitting kit, sent me a disco 200TDi kit for my Defender 200 TDi, and never sent the right one after many phone calls, gave up after modding the fitment myself.

how much did it cost you leon

Was a couple of years ago, but £345.00 comes to mind, of the £5,000 or so ive spent on landrover repairs/mods over the last few years, it's definitely the best money I've spent. :D

Right then.

I can find drop in replacement intercoolers for the 300tdi with aircon for about £200 ish.

Would the gas flow mod on my existing intercooler give me the same effect or would you recommend going for the drop in unit.

The two options are roughly the same money but obviously the gas flow mod doesn't involve me having to get the spanners out :)

are they going to remove your existing intercooler, gas flow it then refitt for the same money as an oversize intercooler.all gas flowing will do is make sure there are no rough edges anywhereand ensure a smoother flow through the intercooler. i personally can't see this giving you the same amount of power upgrade as an oversize intercooler

Like Yella says, gas flowing is basically smoothing the airflow through the intercooler, a full size hi-flow intercooler not only allows more air to flow through at a greater volume, the additional size cools the air far more than the standard one, increasing combustion efficiency.

Can't find a full size to suit the air con model though ?

Is the replacement drop in unit my only option then ?

Sorry about all the questions I just need to be sure before I spend the green

Thanks

Sorry missed that bit in previous post, I haven't searched around to see whats available, but if it's an either or situation, speak to Allard and see what gain they reckon from the second underslung intercooler, they seem genuine on performance gain figures.

From what i've read previously, air temperature is the main factor, acheiving about 4ft-lb per 10 degrees reduction in inlet charge temperature.....which leads onto water coolers.........or air con fed coolers........££££ vs £££££££££££'s :D
