Hi All, I have trawled the threads on this forum and I guess I am being really slow , but I am not understanding the early/late model alloy wheel problem - ie which wheels (mark 1 or mark2 or something else) do I need to buy for a 2002 model on a 51 plate - early 2002 (Jan / Feb) Currently running 195/80/R15 tyres.....I do however, understand the mechanical problem of why they don't fit, but not whether I need early or late wheels for this model year...or something else?

Anyone give me a definitive on this?

Would really appreciate your comments / help - Thanks

When the facelift was caried out to the Freelander 1 there were hundreds of changes made, not least of all bigger (better) brakes.
To accommodate the bigger brakes the alloy wheels needed a greater offset, this is built into the internal wheel boss.
If you look at the facelift wheels, in-between each hole for the wheel stud to pass through there is either a small (6mm) hole or a small dimple

To determine if you have a facelift do your headlights look like this

or like this

The last picture is a face lift model.
The later wheels should fit a pre-face lift model, but the pre-facelift alloy wheels will not fit an facelift model car.
15" steel wheels I believe fit both.
All bets are off if someone has grafted a new front onto an older car.
It would be easier if I could remember that date of the model change  , but it's easier to go outside and have a look.

The brakes and wheels were changed in 2000, long before facelift.

Yep, that's what I thought. I know that the 2000 on Td4 has different ventilated brake
discs than the earlier L-series & thought that the wheels were changed then.

Not sure its a simple as that. I just bought some 16 wheels from a 2006 Freelander, and they dont have the dimples.

They did stop putting the dimples in eventually, the only way to be certain then is to check the part number cast into the back of the wheel.
