Anyone had any experience with using alko hitches on defenders?

Brought a caravan with one on it and had to remove the spare wheel off the back door in order to engage the hitch mechanism.

Do I just need to buy a new tow ball with an extended neck and the drop the towball down to the lowest mounting position?
