Alarms and Immobilisers?

Hi everybody,
Am looking at alarms for my 90 but I was wondering what part of the engine/electrical system will be immobilised.
Also spoke to an alarm fitter and he said an electrical immobiliser can be quite easy to bypass on a Land Rover.
I've got a disklock already and am gonna get a pedal lock.
Would this suffice or has any body got any thoughts from experience about certain makes of alarms that I should get fitted and ones to avoid?

if they want it bad enough they'll have it bud .
all you can do is make it as hard as possible for um
clutchclaw and disc lock are good an alarm will help too . a good lock up garage is another option

ive always had Toad alarms on my cars, not the best in the world but they work. twin circuit immobiliser (ignition and fuel) and rolling code fob, it wont stop a professional thief but not even a tracker stops them, but it will stop ya average joyrider cock!!

oh an its thatcham cat 1 when pro installed, cheaper insurance. and if ya a ponce and wanna show off then the alarm can be linked to a pager, and operate ya windows, an start ya engine.

summat else worth noting - trackers have now been made obsolete. there is a new device that will interrupt the GPS signal sent from a tracker, it was developed by the military but has since become market available. there was a test of a device like this in Portsmouth not long ago - ALL GPS in a 15 mile radius was knocked out, that includes cars and boats, even some RN systems.

Thats the problem I don't have a garage.
Also looking at the posts that go into the ground,
Not the rubbish ones but the heavy duty ones but I see your point if they want it that bad they'll get it.
Maybe I should build a platform on my roof and crane it up every night.
Don't fancy oil leaks on my head when I'm in bed though.

I've always had Toad alarms on previous cars and thats the one I was looking at.
I've read about luxury car thieves blocking tracker systems.
I think you can buy the systems to block them from Israel.
Developed to block mobile phones from detonating explosives.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep digging and asking questions.

If your 90 has any engine earlier than a TD5 then a top of the range alarm is of no real use. You would be far better spending your money on a clutch claw, disc lock and a tracker.

Thanks for the info Ratty,
I've got a disk lock and a clutch claw is on the way,
I might just get a cheap alarm that makes a noise if the doors , bonnet and back door are opened,maybe a movement sensor also.
Just so I know if somebodies inside it.

Making a racket to attract attention is always a good ploy as a start. As has been pointed out simple ignition systems are easy to lock and by the same token easy to get working again.
By interfering with more than one system you make it a longer task to overcome and get the vehicle running. I used to break the starter circuit as well so the engine would not even turn over. Lastly a lot of rally vehicles did not even have ignition keys so we would remove the battery isolator key.
